Hehe glad you liked that, yeah Erised is definitely morally slanted to the side. Luckily she's completely loyal to Marcus so he can be her moral compass... unless she becomes his :o

Cambrian

Well it makes me happy that it did =)

…I mean, it’s not that weird that she might be vaguely into sex… It does speak well of her that she doesn’t seem to mind him immediately giving a slave her freedom. But I suppose the bigger question is exactly how much she heard before deciding to make herself known. On a sidenote, I did think it was funny that right as he was thinking “maybe demons aren’t so bad after all,“ she went and opened her mouth and he immediately thought “OK, nevermind.” If I remember correctly, it was pointed out last chapter that you don’t get a job like assassin without earning it the hard and nasty way… Although I suppose there is much about the job system that is presently unclear. Like the hereditary element. Will try to give broader thoughts on the entire story arc later.

I don't know why the end got me so hard

Cambrian

Don't be sorry, I love these sorts comments just as much as the comments praising me! I think what I would say to your criticism is that as an orphan educated only by the Church, Marcus really doesn't have much in the way of his own opinions so far. Beyond the "slavery bad" decision he made, everything he knows does come from the Church. And tbf he only made the "slavery bad" decision when personal experiences forced him to reassess his viewpoint on the subject. There definitely does need to be further character growth on Marcus' part going forward however. He can't just be reactionary forever, I agree. Hopefully I manage to make his strides towards independence and independent thought feel natural but definitely hold me accountable and keep letting me know how I'm doing on that front.

Cambrian

Glad the humor landed! xD

Cambrian

Thank you!

Cambrian

Glad you liked that =)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

RanmaChaos

An excellent chapter, well done.

Erised: "So first up on the agenda, getting rid of the threat of the nun. I suggest luring her out into the woods and killing her". Marcus: "Yeah, no we're not doing that". Erised: "Okay then, Plan B it is. You shall struggle snuggle her so hard you break her mind and keep her as a pet". Marcus: "What?! No we're not doing that either". Angelina: "Actually I quite like the sound of Plan B. Are you sure you don't want to do that"? Marcus:?!!? Me:🤣

My only gripe (and honestly, it is a pretty minor one enjoyment-wise) is that it feels like Marcus doesn't seem to have many opinions he has arrived at himself independently. It seems like he is just seesawing between what the church doctrine/empire rhetoric says he should feel about something and what his orc instincts demand of him. Sure he might be against certain practices but so far it has always felt like it falls within the context of "This isn't what the Church says it stands for"; a dissonance between doctrine and implementation rather than something he individually thought about and came to the conclusion of "I don't care what the Church says, this is wrong". It makes it feel like he has very little agency or individual thoughts tbh, as on one end it is the propaganda he has been fed since birth (and thus he had no say in) and on the other, it is a base instinctual thing that requires no higher thought. There also seems to be very little middle ground or compromise in his stances. Basically? I would like to see Marcus reason out exactly what his middle-ground stance is ideologically on most matters as most people don't have a dualistic opinion on certain issues so instead of him just being either all in or all against every moralistic quandary that comes his way, I would like to see some nuance. For example, while Marcus may dislike the practice towards Thieves in the church, is his objection really that they have been taken in a Thief to be rehabilitated? Or is it that those who have yet to commit a crime are having such a thing done to him and he would instead like to see such practices only applied towards convicted thieves? Is he against all slavery in all forms, or does he consider debt slavery on par of the government for those who can't pay taxes to be a merciful alternative to imprisonment and instead abhors the concept of chattel slavery? There is nuance in everything and Marcus? I haven't seen anything from him that wasn't all in or all against. Anyway sorry for my long-winded ramble it is just something I noticed on a reread and wanted to bring up.

Darendarus

I'm sorry what lol? Did not expect that from the priestess. Though I'm more concerned with how much she overheard.

Zarroc789

Same

Cambrian

Haha had a lot of practice from my Story Polls I guess

Cambrian

Thanks I'm so happy to hear that! Glad your biggest complaint is that its not coming fast enough lmao

Even 10 chapters in the blows don't stop coming lol! Cambrian has perfected the art of the cliffhanger chapter ending.

Dewayne patrick

pacing is in a good sweet spot as your doing pretty well on fleshing out the characters. I only wish for more chapters faster as I really like the story so far

Cambrian

Hehe, glad you're enjoying it, and glad its all landing properly

Jack Reaver

Great work! I like how he's retaining his morals, but still is going to do things like this. I hope that since we didn't get cute soft catgirl, the nun is the cute sex toy. I figure she was being naughty and watching them fuck, and was so tempted by the dick that she didn't mind the talk about him being the dark lord. I feel like the priest is going to represent the side of him that's more heroic, and the demon is going to be trying to make him more of a dark lord.

Dewayne patrick

I can’t help but laugh. Your balls deep in your girl but your complementing life the entire time

Kaijucifer

You definitely nailed it! I can see how this will work in the future! Now I'm imagining the chapter Marcus confesses to both of them his true nature once he figures it out sometime during their journey! Will be glorious hahaha the buildup will be worth every bit

Cambrian

Glad you liked the thematic bits hehe, that was what I was aiming for!

Kaijucifer

I love the direction this is taking, Marcus will come into his own through his own path, with a Angel and a Demon on his shoulders along the journey. Fantastic chapter, as usual! BTW, did you see my last replies on the Sleeping Dragon vibes check? Wanted to know what you thought about my reiterations of that if you find the time!

Cambrian

Hmmm, if there even is corruption to begin with~

JNR5

I wonder if Marcus has double immunity and a from being corrupted from being a Dark Lord and Hero

Cambrian

Tbf... he's got a lot on his mind v.v

Smile Dip

Gotta wonder how much she heard, how much she saw. It sounds like she heard enough to have already made her choice. Also, Marcus sure spends a lot of time thinking for a dude balls deep in a cute demon.
