Someone dons the helm then simply runs all the undead they now control into an active volcano. Problem solved.

While the Lich King was the origin of the plague of undeath, that doesn't necessarily mean that the plague couldn't continue existing without him. And it also doesn't take into account the intelligent Liches and other Scourge commanders beneath him. The Lich King was the focal point of command and control for the Scourge, but that's not the be-all-end-all. In any case, the main problem with exterminating the Scourge was just how MANY of them there are. By this point, the Scourge thoroughly controlled most of Northrend and at least half of the Eastern Kingdoms continent. Fully wiping out the Scourge would require the dedicated manpower and resources of numerous kingdoms, for a task that would likely take decades. There are very few such kingdoms that are both stable enough to provide that kind of assistence, and politically willing to do so. Of the Human kingdoms, Stormwind is likely still rebuilding, Gilneas and Kul Tiras have been isolationist since the end of the Second War, Gilneas is also starting to deal with the Worgen problem, and all three of them still hate orcs to some degree or another. The Troll empires are either broken shadows of their former selves, or isolationist. The High Elves are still piecing themselves back together after almost being annihilated by the Scourge. The Dwarves are likely the most stable faction out of all, but still have their own internal issues between the clans. The Horde is basically just now starting to create a stable home for itself, Theramore is basically just enough people to form a single city. The Scourge was already simply too large to wipe out in its entirety, and it's debatable whether there'd even be enough people who were willing to cooperate enough to try.

That never made much sense either. The only reason the scourge were such an existential threat was because the Lich King was there to basically make an infinite amount of them. Without that there's no real reason you couldn't just exterminate the rest of them. The undead without the Burning Legion/Nerzhul assistance just aren't a big deal.

The whole there must always be a Lich King thing is to keep the Scourge in check because if there wasn’t they would flood the world in an undead apocalypse

I'm glad you're enjoying! As for Maiev and Naisha, they are not joining the harem, no. At least, not in the main story. Originally, the plan was to have them use Rognak as their sperm donor because Naisha decided she wanted a baby from the orc who saved her life and Maiev gruffly would go along with it and wind up drawn into a threesome as a result. However, I have decided to move that particular scene to a bonus chapter because the more I looked at it and the main story, the less I felt like it belonged in the main story tbh. So Maiev and Naisha WILL eventually get lewded in what I'm calling a semi-canon bonus chapter, meaning that it'll be up to the readers whether they consider it canon or not

So, on the subject of whether Shadowlands is a thing or not... I'm not confirming it one way or another in this fic, though personally I don't like Shadowlands one bit lmao. Just bad lore. That said, even canonically, no one who's died right now would be being tortured in the Maw. Canonically, the Arbiter who decides where souls go in Shadowlands doesn't get broken until the end of WoW's Legion Expansion, when the corrupted world soul Argus strikes the Arbiter and leaves it dormant. Until then, Shadowlands is working just fine and everyone who dies before the end of the Legion Expansion goes on to their respective afterlife in Shadowlands rather than the Maw.

If we're not adding that, then I don't really buy into the whole "there must always be a lich king" thing. Literally just cremate every body and force every race to include that as part of their culture from now on. Problem solved

Hrathen

Wonder if Shadow lands is a thing. If so then basically everyone who's died so far regardless of their leanings are currently being tortured into insanity in the Maw right now. Heroic sacrifices would be pointless in that case since everyone would be damned regardless

amazing work again! though i have to ask. will the two wardens join the budding harem? if not i hope they survive the coming battles.
