Cambrian

Good catch, shoulda just been hundreds, fixed now!

Keeper

Fun fact: Hearthstone actually has a "what if Malfurion was killed and became a Unholy Death Knight" card https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/hearthstone_gamepedia/images/c/c7/Malfurion_the_Pestilent_full.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20170810183521

Malfurion is an actual flesh and body night elf. Can't just make him a new body. There's nothing to connect him to it.

Phraxius

"No, they’ve cost them tens hundreds of Night Elf druids." Tens OR hundreds or tens OF hundreds?

TheRagFromTheCrag

A curious thought but that would be a fucked up dynamic between Shandris, Rognak, and Tyrande no?

Lokhaxz

That might be possible if his body were still living, and they could "move" him from one vessel to the other. His body is already dead though, his anchor is gone. He has nothing tying him physically to the waking world to be able to pull him back.

Cambrian

It has to do with the way he was cut off so violently. He's part of the Emerald Dream now, full stop... but at the same time, he wasn't meant to be part of the Emerald Dream. So all they can really do is let him vibe until he fully disperses into the Dream.

Nicholas Draper

Aren't night elves (or at least their in-game faction) capable of creating bodies though? Even ignoring the treants and ancients which are essentially spirits animating trees, I'm sure that the dryads are grown from flowers or something rather than being born. If Malfurion's mind and soul have both survived, why don't they just grow him a new body. Hell, I'm pretty sure our present day society is capable of making an empty body and we don't have magic to help so the gnomes should be more than capable of doing so. What we lack is the ability to make a consciousness but that's not an issue here.

Cambrian

That won't be happening, though Malfurion will show up again before the end of this fic, in his own special way lol

Cambrian

Butterflies... butterflies everywhere~ We'll have to see what happens next week!

Cambrian

Maaaaybe

Cambrian

A little guilt is understandable, but not to worry, Rognak isn't going to let it stop him heh

Cambrian

Heh, all I'll say is that this isn't the last big swing this story takes... fingers crossed that you enjoy what I have coming up! xD

Dracontorrin

@LordMarksman - you are correct about Illidan but despite being the "bad guy" at this point in the story - Illidan was born with golden eyes which was suggesting the great future and purpose, according to lore of Legion expansion of WoW. Which probably made him arrogant and power hungry - it did not help that Tyrande choose Malf and not him despite the fact that from what was seen it was Illidan who acted more "in love" with Tyrande than Mal. Everything Illidan did since "joining" Burning Legion was to find out how to defeat them for good - there is so much tell that I will not even start nerding as I am too heavily sitting in the lore and too based as I played most of my life as Undead or Troll on Horde side (yes I simped for a long time for Sylvanas - at least until Legion :P). On the other hand with regards to amount of hypocrisy Malfurion and Tyrande had it especially was stunning as you said - never liked them and lore of WoW did not help. In orginal timeline Tyrande basically murdered many of Wardens - (Warcraft 3) (Nigh elf charged with keeping Illidan and many other beeings prisoners) to free him. And later when Illidan did something "questionable" she was first to berate him xD

I wonder if you will have Malfurion share Ragnok’s body. Should be interesting to see if Malfurion ends up learning about all the game knowledge via Ragnok’s memories and serving as an advisor and confidant.

LordMarksman

@Dracontorrin Admittedly I don't know WoW that well, but from what little I was able to surmise I feel like Illdrian got something of a raw deal. Sure he made some mistakes and was powerhungry but the way he was treated didn't seem right to me. One of my friends way more into WoW says Malfurion and Tyrande can be pretty hypocritical at times although he enjoys both characters (Well a lot more Tyrande than Malfurion). Various tragedy's and such could have been possibly averted if they were more supporting and openminded. So Rognak who would have future knowledge and understand Illdrian better than most may be able to act as a sort of "bridge" and turn things in a more positive direction. Besides way later on Tyrande supposedly saw the necessity of Arcane magic even though she rebuked it in the beginning. Anyway just looking forward to how Cambrian handles things because things could definitely take another interesting direction depending on how things go. Because Rognak isn't anywhere near as uptight, self righteous, or stupidly stubborn as Malfurion.

Yep, knew that Malfurion's soul would persist in the Dream. Still, they can PROBABLY get him back by giving his soul a new physical body, but I really doubt that will happen. Methinks Malfurion will accept it and just become one with the Emerald Dream to protect it. Still, Tyrande's grief is VERY apparent and would probably linger. Illidan, even though he has a MASSIVE grudge on his own brother due to the fact that he stole Tyrande's love (In his perspective at least) would be PIIIIISSSED at the Burning Legion for killing him. After all, even with all their differences Malfurion IS still his brother, and Illidan DID go to Malfurion for help when he found out that Tyrande is still alive. I DO wonder if this will butterfly away Illidan taking the Skull of Gul'dan though. Maybe due to the fact that the Druids got decimated Illidan will have more support amongst the Night Elves in creating more Demon Hunters perhaps? We'll just hafta see.

Chainsword83

"Those that lurk in the shadows".... He's gonna talk Cenarius into helping recruit the Wardens and Illidan, isn't he?

Big ToFu

Okay, let's not fall into that sort of trap please and thanks. The moment he opened gus eyes in the new world the timeline went out the window. It's no one's fault and trying to claim he is somehow at fault is just pure insanity.

Damn, mate, i suspected this since Tyrande POV, but damn. And i admit i had my misgivings after last chapter, but i am happy the path seens to be going different than i feared. Unfortunally, despite how great Warcraft Lore is, there are very few good story's. And this one is shaping to be a great one. This last chapter gave me great expectations. You started the story in a great point, and i look foward to how you are going to go foward. Also, not hoping to be rude, but can anyone indicate a good WOW fiction? I only know a Nerubian Journey.

Cambrian

He shows up next week, so keep an eye out for that!

Dracontorrin

Well to be honest he is still the hero - well more of a vigilantie but he made a greatest choice is you follow later lore from WoW. But you have a point I am interested in seeing what how he will be put into the story.

LordMarksman

Looking forward to how you work in Illidan Stormrage here. Despite the bitterness, he felt toward his brother. At the end he still did love him, the fact he was semi-murdered and body desecrated is going to make him pretty angry. Who knows, maybe Illdrian can get to be one of the big heroes of the day as long as Rognak and Tyrande can be positive influences.

Smile Dip

There's a lot of life in your original/free writes that I enjoy, and I think you'll continue to do a good job ❤

Cambrian

Heh, well I'm glad I'm holding your attention even without familiarities with Warcraft Lore. Hope I continue to do so!

Cambrian

Lmao too true, too true. And thanks, I'm happy too as you can probably tell by my inability to stop talking about it xD

Smile Dip

Ooh! The wheel turns, and Rognak begins to speculate on how he'll need to innovate and adapt! I'm not super familiar with the lore of Warcraft, so I'm mainly just along for the ride, but I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Dracontorrin

Cambrian hard for the Thrall pep talk to be not super effective when it was "Orc Jesus" speaking. Thank you so much for a chapter :D Also happy for you being on RR. Also could you give a little insight - where are Bronze Dragons and why the f they still did not do anything about our OC? It is not a "prime timeline" :D or I missed one of your A/N?
