“… Tell me, have you lost any time recently? Any chunks of memory missing that you can’t account for? And finally, have you come into contact with any sort of alien or mystical material, something that’s clearly not of the mundane world that you might have touched or even just been near and felt strange afterwards?”
Thaddeus blinks at Janet’s rather thorough questioning, not even having to feign his surprise and mild confusion at the sudden interrogation. Slowly, he shakes his head.
“… No? And no. Also no.”
Maybe he could have tried to lie about one of those other things she mentioned, but the best lies were laid down to bed alongside truth in his opinion, so he figures he’ll stick with what he actually knows so he can avoid the most obvious pitfalls. And indeed, upon hearing his answers, Janet smiles smugly and nods her head.
“As I thought. You’re one of mine then. A mutant, like me.”
Feigning surprise, Thaddeus gapes in response, injecting a bit of a voice crack into his voice.
“R-Really? I’m… a mutant?”
A flash of something dangerous appears in Janet’s eyes at that, even though he’d been careful not to inject any disgust or loathing into his voice.
“Is that a problem, Thaddeus? Don’t hate mutants, but when it becomes you, suddenly you aren’t a fan of the idea? Is that it?”
Thaddeus frowns in response, furrowing his brow and shaking his head.
“No… of course not. I just… I’ve got a football scholarship to ESU. A full ride based on my physical abilities. What the hell are they going to think when I show up over a foot taller to practice tomorrow?”
Janet looks appropriately chagrined at his explanation, taking a step back and biting her lower lip. It’s clear she doesn’t have an immediate answer. Jennifer, meanwhile, does… but it’s not a very good one.
“Steroids?”
The green-skinned woman’s attempt at a joke falls flat with pretty much the entire room, making her huff and duck her head in embarrassment. Giving her friend a look, Sue turns back to Thaddeus, a curious glint in her eye.
“Okay. We can figure this out. Not to toot my own horn, but I’m not just Reed Richards’ girlfriend… er, ex-girlfriend. I’m a scientist as well. First things first, I think we all noticed it… your mutation, if that is what it is, seems to be based around sex and getting power from sex… as well as giving in turn. Full disclosure Thaddeus, but we all got stronger when you fucked us.”
Thaddeus doesn’t have to feign his surprise… he honestly wasn’t sure if they would tell the truth about that. Frowning at Jennifer’s question, Thaddeus pretends to consider it briefly while looking down at his truly gigantic hands for a moment, opening and closing them in the process.
“I feel… strange. Confused. Upset. Uncertain. But… strong.”
Jennifer snickers.
“Heh, yeah. That’s definitely me. Okay, try this then… breathe with me. In… and out… in… and out.”
Thaddeus follows along with Jennifer’s words, inwardly amused. He grows even more amused when Jennifer’s little breathing mantra actually calms her down so much that she loses hold of her She-Hulk form. Obviously she didn’t need to be THAT angry to hold onto it from what he understood, but even still.
At the same time, he goes ahead and throws her a bone, as well as just doing it to throw them all off too, and slowly begins dialing down his own transformation with every long breath he takes. Until finally, he’s back at his ‘base’ size and looking down at himself in wonder.

The three heroines all continue to eat up his act, looking a mixture of concerned, amused, and affectionate for him. Janet is the quickest to step forward and suddenly wrap her arms around one of his arms, which while shrunken down now, is still huge for someone of her size.
“As a fellow mutant, I think it would be best if I were the one to show Thaddeus here the ropes, ladies. It’s not that the two of you would mess it up or anything… but you’d probably mess it up.”
Whoa now. That was rather cutthroat of the fashion designer. Was she seriously trying to stake a claim on him? Needless to say, both Sue and Jennifer are just as incredulous as Thaddeus in the face of Janet’s words.
“Oh! You audacious bitch! What the hell do you mean mess it up, huh? He clearly has some form of my powers, so of course he needs my help!”
Jennifer’s words would make sense… but apparently she and Sue aren’t presenting a united front here, because the blonde steps in from the side and crosses her arms over her own chest as she shakes her head.
“I’m pretty sure she’s talking about you transforming into the She-Hulk mid-fuck and completely blowing our cover, Jen. You kind of did mess things up. If you’d kept your cool, we could have all brought Thaddeus up to speed about his powers together, in a calmer manner. But you kind of made a mess of things. Still, I don’t see how I messed anything up yet! And besides, it’s not like we know for a fact that Thaddeus is a mutant! He could still have been experimented on as a child, for instance!”
… It said something about their world that Janet pauses briefly at that idea before ultimately shrugging in response.
“Experimented on as a baby and mutant are practically the same thing, really. As for how YOU messed up… well, there is the fact that you blew our identities after Jennifer blew hers. Telling Thaddeus who you were is one thing, but telling him who I am was out of line, don’t you think?”
“He would have found out soon enough anyways! You would have told him!”
“Maybe, but at least it would have been my choice!”
… They were fighting over him. They were honest to goodness bickering over him, like three hyenas brawling over a piece of particularly succulent meat. His eyes ping-ponging back and forth between them all, Thaddeus can hardly believe his ears. Where had their solidarity gone? Why were they suddenly being so catty with each other? Why were they suddenly at one another’s throats?
Was this his Luck at work somehow? Was he going to be asking himself that for the rest of eternity, or would he eventually get used to it enough to stop being concerned?
Either way, one thing was for sure… he needed to step in before things got too heated. With the three heroines sniping at one another over him, it seemed that Thaddeus was to be the deciding vote…
