Of course, before the promised mundanity of classes on Monday, there was still Sunday to get through. And before Sunday, there was still the rest of Saturday as well. Specifically, Thaddeus found himself meeting with Sage at her high-rise apartment in the city, given that his dorm room was far from the most secure place for them to have the sort of one-on-one chat they needed to have.
Even though it’s her place they’re meeting at, Sage has already dressed the part for her new role. “You shouldn’t feel guilty. This? This is nothing compared to some of the outfits Shaw had me wear at times. Sage looks slightly amused by his words, even as she tilts her head to the side at him. Thaddeus doesn’t squirm, but he does find himself grasping for assurances. He’s not looking for a slave or anything like that. He’s certainly not looking for an unwilling servant.
“For instance… Natasha Romanoff and I have a similar arrangement with one another. I make her stronger, obviously, and she relishes in that power. But she and I both know that one day, she’ll be strong enough for whatever she really wants to accomplish, at which point she’ll leave my service… amicably.”
The female mutant lets the silence between them build for a moment longer before finally sparing Thaddeus of the awkward tension with a smile and a nod.
“I understand. Still, you should probably get used to calling me Tessa, even in private. It’s just good practice, and I’ve been Tessa for many years now, so it won’t hurt my feelings. As far as certain parties are concerned, I’m still in deep cover, after all.”
That was fair, yes.
“It’s good that you brought your arrangement with the Black Widow up. We should probably initiate a similarly intimate arrangement, where you use me for sex as often as possible, even in front of witnesses if need be.”

“Err… I’m sorry, can you clarify what you mean by that?”

“Our relationship, at least in the eyes of most others, is liable to be somewhat adversarial and caustic.”

“Your and Frost’s choice to assign me to you personally as your assistant means that there’s only really one way to justify this in the eyes of our enemies and others. I am a collar and leash meant to be in place so that the White Queen can more readily keep tabs on you… and tug when necessary.”
That was true, yes. In fact, that was why they’d made Sage his assistant in the first place, over something like making her Emma’s, or disappearing the Tessa identity and having her take up another cover entirely.
It was a way of creating an artificial wedge between him and Emma, basically. Something to make it clear that the two of them weren’t actually working together, or colluding. A way to make their relationship seem somewhat shaky and unstable.
With Shaw’s death and both King positions in the Hellfire Club vacant, Emma had effectively been forced to promote Thaddeus to Knight last night. Not just because of how he’d killed the Black King, but also because she needed to shore up her own power base and foundations within the Hellfire Club.
At least, that’s how they wanted it to look to everyone else. Rather than what it actually was, which was Emma taking the opportunity to put more power and influence in the hands of her closest ally.
By having Sage assigned as Thaddeus’ PA, they were presenting the alternative theory that Emma didn’t have quite the hold over Thaddeus that she should have. That he’d gone ‘off the reservation’ one too many times so to speak. And most importantly of all, that she was clamping down with an iron grip and keeping a much, much closer eye on Thaddeus using Sage as proxy from this point on.
Thaddeus understood all of this. He was prepared for what it would mean for him. Sage would effectively begin micromanaging his life from this point on, at least outwardly. There was also the tacit understanding that she would be reporting on all of his comings and goings to Emma, to make it look as though Thaddeus was being kept on a very short leash indeed.
… But what did all of that have to do with him fucking her?
Looking at him slightly disappointed, Sage sighs.
“You are a young man, Thaddeus. A virile young man known for your man-whoring. And yes, that is in part a direct consequence of your mutation rewarding said man-whoring, but that in and of itself is the problem. I am your collar and leash… but obviously, I’m meant to be an invisible, subtle lever of power for Frost to use on you. One that you, in your ‘reckless bullheaded way’ are not supposed to even realize is there. I’m a ‘gift’ that you’re supposed to happily, and stupidly accept without thinking twice about.”
… Ah. Now he was starting to pick up what she was putting down. Of course, just in case it’s not fully clear, Sage spells it out for him anyways.
“In the end, you must make use of me sexually on the regular, if only because it is what everyone who will be watching is expecting of you. Last night, the Black King died because you refused to give up a beautiful woman. If the next day you refuse to make use of the newest beautiful woman dumped in your lap, what does that say about you and your true intentions?”
She was making a very, compelling argument. There was just one minor issue with all of this. Thaddeus might be young, but he wasn’t born yesterday. Nor was he an idiot. Far from it, in fact. Deciding to test his nascent theory, Thaddeus crosses his arms over his chest and hums consideringly.
“What’s to stop us from merely feigning a sexual relationship to outsiders? I can touch you here and there in public to make it look like we’re fucking behind closed doors. There’s no need to actually force yourself to do the deed.”
Sage pauses at that, her eyes narrowing almost imperceptibly as she stares him down for a moment before finally huffing.
“You’re going to make me beg, aren’t you?”
Thaddeus tries not to be too amused as he raises the second eyebrow to join the first and just looks at her. Finally, Sage rolls her eyes.
“You mentioned your arrangement with the Black Widow before. I would like to establish a similar arrangement. You will have my loyalty… in exchange for more power.”
Yeah. That was what Thaddeus figured Sage was angling for. After all, sex with him wasn’t just sex. It was so much more than that, especially for a mutant woman like Sage or an enhanced woman like Natasha. Sex with him represented growth. It made every woman he copulated with stronger.

But just beneath that surface, one had to keep in mind that the boosts went both ways. And Thaddeus wasn’t entirely sure that giving Sage more power actually was in his best interest.
Natasha was one thing. The Black Widow had started out with enhanced strength, speed, and durability as a result of whatever it was the Red Room had dosed her with in her youth. Thaddeus could only build on what was already there, so fucking her just made her physically more adept.
She was well beyond superhuman at this point to be fair, with a blinding speed that had temporarily showcased itself last night when she was sure nobody was looking as she’d made for cover. Thaddeus had done his best to protect her from the flying bullets of course, but a few had made it past him and Cessily all the same. Not that it mattered, Natasha was fast enough to dodge such things easily these days.
… But physical improvement was one thing. Sage was a telepath… and last night had shown Thaddeus what boosting a telepath could do. Emma Frost had been able to not only overwhelm Sage’s mind and lock down her fellow psychic, but she’d also done so while taking control of every mind in the ballroom.
Emma’s power was far, far greater than it was when he and she had first met, and that was thanks to Thaddeus. And while sleeping with Laura as much as he had meant he was basically immune to telepathic attacks, there was still an inherent risk in giving another mutant psychic as much power as he gave Emma.
And yet, at the same time… he would be proving himself a hypocrite and a liar if he denied this request, wouldn’t he? Because denying Sage more power would only be proving that he had no intention of eventually letting her go. It would prove to her that he wanted to keep her under his thumb and control her no matter what.
It’s a dilemma to be sure… but it doesn’t really have to be, Thaddeus ultimately realizes. He and Emma had fucked dozens of times. So had he and Laura. Sage… well, it would take her an awful lot of dick riding to catch up, wouldn’t it?
“I can see you’ve finally realized you don’t need to worry about me. I took option #1 because I figure that it both gives Team Thad a tiny amount of breathing room before Selene institutes whatever play she's cooking up with aid from Mr. Sinister, and allows Sage some freedom of control in her dealings with Thad. Option #3 is winning and I don't hate that, but I was hoping Sage's continued servitude could be mitigated.
