Apple Pay Warnings
🕑 Added 2025-02-28 19:27:57 +0000 UTCI got the email today. If you make any Patreon payments using Apple Pay, 30% of your money gets sucked up, specifically by Apple. Not Patreon, not me. Apple.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT use Apple Pay to subscribe to any Patreon. Not mine, not anyone else's. Charge through any other means than Apple Pay.
I assume everyone has already heard this news, but I feel it's necessary to make a post for those who haven't.

There’s always a convenience fee somewhere. Cards and PayPal are minuscule compared to Apple, but also necessary. Imagine the old fashioned way of paying for postage to send money to the creator, converting to their currency if necessary, and waiting for the finished product to show up via email. I’ll pay with card or PayPal for that, but Apple is just gouging for us using their method.

What about just straight up using a credit card? There must be a fee from Visa/Mastercard/Discover/Amex?

Paypal is 30 cents + 2-3% depending on the country. So that's basically 3% vs 30% from Apple.
