Of note in this example I use only rectangles and squares. The purpose for this is that neither rectangles nor squares draw specific attention to themselves. This is unlike other shapes like circles and triangles and diagonal lines.
It's one of the reasons why the Boxcutter add-on for Blender is so successful at creating interesting shapes and objects.
Adding and subtracting rectilinear shapes is a great way to sharpen skills with regard to understanding design distribution patterns.

Hi Mark! Thanks for your comment. The real point of this tip is to talk about patterns of detail and *retaining* negative space so that β stays relatively detail free. Of course these "recipes" are not locked in stone and are deviated from all the time. That said, I see lots of sci fi and tech concepts that try and cover every inch of surface with detail leaving no place for the eye to rest. Also, extreme coverage of only small tertiary detail can be considered negative space as it comes across as only a texture. HTH I'll see about creating a video π

I find this particular tip hard to follow. A "real life" or rendered example would be nice to see of this.
