Microdisplacement Mini-Course
🕑 Added 2021-04-18 07:44:47 +0000 UTCHey folks,
I just completed this video and as promised, I wanted to share with you the scene file, the greeble SYNTH recipe, and the KPACK that goes with it all. Unzip the S-Spacestation.zip file and put the folder: "S-Spacestation" in your SYNTH_Masterfolder.
Note, there is a table of contents for the mini-course, so you can skip the parts you may already know. Also, I'm using beta versions of both SYNTH and KIT OPS, which will be released soon, but you should be okay with the existing versions.
If you need me, you can also find me on http://cw1.me/discord my Discord server.
Thanks for being Patreons! Much appreciated :-)

You should try converting to mesh as described at 31:36 https://youtu.be/u1Mwwl1XAP0?si=XVocwgVZkikm7tcn

Hello Chipp! Im new to Blender (and probably way over my head) but Ive been modeling a ship from this tutorial and bought the add-ons, excl Synth, and have gotten a great model. My problem is I imported your materials directly and whilst they look great Blender can't render any of it (runs out of memory), Im specifically using your CW_space_displacement for ship exterior. Ive followed your Displacement Nodes google drive document but to to no avail. Do you have other tips for helping the render? Ive checked out both Baking the textures if that would improve performance (would it? Havent gotten it to work either) or backface culling (but likewise havent gotten that to work in Cycles too despite trying to place geometry node, mix shader and transparent BSDF). Would love to hear how you would work around this. Thanks! KR, Morgan

I have a question. After you get the shape you want at the 11:30 mark you go to something with a cube and adding material to it. I don't know how you got to it and I could use the help.

Glad to hear it, Trevor!

Hi Chipp, Nice job on the Kit Ops Pro and SYNTH updates. Just to let you know that the issue of Slow Scrolling when having the LAYER and INSERT TABS open at the same time in SYNTH, have vanished. The speed performance is excellent! on my Laptop :)

Thanks Chip, I will access the file later on today.

It's because my url shortener doesn't use https. I'm using the one from godaddy, and I've asked them about it and they are looking into adding https soon. There's no risk, though.

Hi Chipp, I'm getting a "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead" when I click on your Displacement Guide link from my security software, any ideas? Thanks for posting the tutorial great stuff. Happy Blending.

Yep. I saw that when editing and added a screen graphic saying so. :-)
