Sci-Fi-Sam and why I've been MIA
🕑 Added 2022-11-29 15:36:11 +0000 UTCHey folks, sorry I've been missing in action as of the last few weeks. I'm in the middle of a whirlwind move. As many of you may know, my wife and I live on a horse ranch in Texas and after 25 years in the country we've recently sold it and are moving to a smaller property, but a bigger house. And, with my on-again/off-again health, it's been quite the project!
We hope to be moved in by Dec 11. Until then I'm super busy packing up and getting all the *systems* set up like: mesh wifi, security system, aquariums, computers, 3d printers, etc..
So, no time right now for a video, though I have a few lined up I want to make, especially one that goes into optimizing Blender files for export to Sketchfab, Unity, and UE.
In the meantime, I thought I'd share these KIT OPS INSERTS with you. Just download the zip from the link (Download button at top), extract to "sci-fi-sam" folder and place that folder in any existing KIT OPS masterfolder. For help: http://cw1.me/installkitops
I created all this character myself using a variety of techniques-- including doing a lot of the modeling using VR Gravity Sketch. Fun stuff! Posed with tweaks in Mixamo. I hope you enjoy.

Is Kit Ops crashing for anyone else? Whenever I try adding a cutter to the scene, Blender crashes.

I believe those are the original files that were actually 8K resolution maps. 2K are probably good enough for most and if you really need more up close stuff than 4K should do it fine. 8K was archival quality.

Hi Chipp! In the downloaded file there are blend files with prefix 2K and 4K. What are the blend files with no prefix?... they are huge (~700MB).

Thanks James. I think I'm good. I have a Synology NAS which works nicely and some Alexa and hue devices-- so not too complicated.

Moving sucks but it sounds like there's some fun projects there on the networking side of things! Just set up my first network rack last month in my house, let me know if you need any hardware suggestions for the larger square footage!
