Anderson believes his antagonistic behaviour towards Sherlock played a part in his "death" and feels guilty/remorseful over this. He then became determined to prove Sherlock was still alive in order to resolve his guilty, eventually losing his job. Anderson is right of course, but everyone else just thinks he's gone crazy over the idea that he might have pushed someone into killing themselves.
