âI guess I had to learn there is no freedom, without love.â I think Canuteâs line about love also relates to his feelings toward âGod,â which he may now view as a metaphor for the natural order or logic of the universe as much as a personal being. In his view, God abandoned us after Eden and isnât coming to save us, so he will be the one to do it. Iâm sure seeing God as âFatherâ made it hurt more just as he realized his earthly father didnât love him either. And to think he also was there when Askeladd spoke of Artorius and how he canât wait anymore

Iâm telling you it seems like Canute is changing and thatâs because he is. Itâs all for the good of all. But the âhypocrisyâ is not lost on him thatâs what makes his writing so interesting and chilling.

Iâm not sure if I would put Thorgilâs intellect up there with Askeladd since heâs the GOAT of strategy but heâs definitely not your average berserker. He probably couldâve hanged with the best of em in any era but unfortunately he lives during the time of Canute, itâs pretty cool to learn more history about this time period because the Vikings were actually so influential on European politics during the Middle Ages
