Scales of Time Teaser

I apologize for some continued delays. The Scales of Time may still get another chapter today, but it will be much later than usual and very possibly will have to be delayed further.
This is my first time maintaining my writing schedule like this while having one of my work crunch periods, and as such I have misjudged the amount of time I would have to juggle and how to best juggle it. The good news is I don't have these work crunch periods often, and the knowledge I've gained from this experience will help me to better plan for the future ones.
The better news is that the Scales of Time is still definitely being worked on, and here is a teaser:
Vivian could feel her stomach rumble.
Julia was making her stomach rumble.
“That’s right. You’re feeling pretty hungry, aren’t you my little piglet? Of course you are. You’re turning into a fatty, and us fatties need to eat. Don’t we, tubs? Come on. Reach for it. Reach for that food you know you want.”
Vivian felt herself reaching out for a thick, soft, delicious smelling garlic bread stick and placed it on a plate next to her mound of spaghetti.
“It’s cute that you think you can get just one.”
Her hand reached forward again as Vivian felt herself compelled to get a second one, and a third, and a fourth. Vivian couldn’t help herself. As she picked up each breadstick, her mind was filled with thoughts about how delicious they would be. She could feel herself already getting lost in the idea of stuffing her face with these warm, tasty treats and letting the troubles of her day just drift away lost in the distraction of her decadent desires.
“That’s right, piglet. Carbs can be so comforting. You know that. You deserve a little treat for yourself. No. A nice big treat for yourself. Go ahead. Things have been rough, and you could really use the pick me up. You NEED the pick me up. You NEED these breadsticks, so go ahead and get some more. Load up, tubby. Get set to stuff your fat face, my little piglet.”
Vivian didn’t stop at four breadsticks, or five. She laid the breadsticks on her plate, stacking them in a pyramid in satisfying rows until she had ten garlic breadsticks in total.
And she knew she wasn’t done.

Update: The chapter is at a little over 1,300 words with a goal of between 2,000 and 2,500. I'm still in the thick of work, and don't want to rush this because I think plot wise it's an important chapter that I really want to get right.
