Anatomy Study 1 / OC doodles / Life update

I'm keeping it hush from IG, but I'm taking a short break from posting to really drill my art fundamentals, which I've neglected the past couple of months cuz I was hyper-focused on learning how to draw comics and caught up with the massive surge of followers from Poppy LOL. People love that big headed kid. I've been so used to doing weekly posts on IG (since March last year I think), it's kinda nice to forget about that for a brief period and focus on just my craft, and not content.
While working on Reunion, I can confirm 2 things:
1. Now I know I definitely want to draw comics, it's no longer a "maybe" which I've said in previous Q&As.
2. I have a clear vision, but I lack the skills to bring the ideas to life.
I think point 2 is pretty normal. When I look at all the artists I love, I can appreciate and respect the YEARS they have committed to their craft. Comics are different, it's not the same as just drawing one still, you have to understand really complex anatomy, environments, perspective, expression, panelling etc., I mean, I can really go on. There is also the need for great storytelling skills if you're writing your own story. It's a LOT to cover, something people are not aware of until they start to actually do the work (I'm talking about me, HAHA).
To be honest, I panicked a little bit, not because I didn't enjoy the process, but I was worried about my progress. Not having an art mentor can be difficult at times like this, I can't tell if I'm doing things right, and sometimes I don't know how to move forward. I usually have to put in special effort to summon my problem-solving skills to figure out what the "problems" are in my work, and what I need to do to improve it.
And I can gladly say I feel pretty good while doing these studies! It actually has been MONTHS since I last sat down and properly evaluated my work, so I'm really thankful for having Patreon because these are things that are tough to share publicly on social media, and it's daunting when you have a large audience. I guess Patreon is kind of like my safe space, so... welcome to my safe space! :D
Anyway, the good news is I can't seem to stop drawing comics, even if it's just little doodles. I have so much fun cooking up scenarios in my head and writing dialogues, even if they are extremely mundane. I don't know how many of you here are artists or aspiring to be one, but I hope you'll find these studies helpful to you too as I'll be sharing a lot more of them this season! If not, you have these random comic doodles to read haha.

Thank you Sara π appreciate it! I think we all have the same problem, trying to make some progress in general is really tough especially when youβre self-directed for the most part. Well messing up is part of learning so i try not to stress over mistakes so much and just celebrate the tiny things π dont gv up indeed!
Ah this was a good quick demo from easy-to-understand images (and I also think the chibi convo was so cute)! I totally relate to you about the progress difficulties because I have also been trying to teach myself to draw since the beginning of quarantine here in the US, and I feel like blocks when I hit those plateaus of progress and don't know how to overcome them sometimes since I don't have someone directing me. Truly trying to ball on a budget ya know? LOL. But despite the plateaus, I keep drawing at least a little bit in order to keep at it and don't give into to the thought of giving up!
