Sean, aka Turd Ferguson

And High Five also referred to the group being the first, and highest 5 players on the scoreboard.

I've seen this movie many times. While watching this reaction video today, I noticed for the first time that Arty's avatar in the last battle scenes included the birthmark on her face.

Fun watch! Growing up, Adventure and Pitfall were my favorite Atari games. This movie is a big ball of nostalgia. It's comforting (and a little scary) how familiar all of the pop culture references are, because I lived them. Can't believe you guys never even heard of Buckaroo Banzai (The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension) before. Wonderfully terrible, cheesy comic-booky cult classic.

Rigs216

Nolan was talos main shape-shifter from captain marvel and his assassin was ghost phaser from antman and the wasp

I completely forgot how much the movie deviated from the book. I listen to the audio book narrated by Will Wheaton every year. I recommend you give it a listen!

Rob couldn't place the corporate douche-nozzle, he was played by Ben Mendelsohn, who was in "Rogue One" and also played Nick Fury's boss in "Captain Marvel" who turned out to be the Skrull, Talos.

Susan Sitzmann

I came here to make this comment! The book is soo God and Will made it better.

Thadman

Yes, that is true about Adventure and the Easter Egg. It was my favorite early Atari 2600 game. I had to be told about the Easter Egg, but I did go searching for it and found it once.

That weapon that Sho used to cut off I-R0k's arm was the glaive from the movie "Krull." A cheesy fantasy movie which I loved as a kid, mainly 'cause of that weapon. I believe Patrick Stewart MAY have had a role in it (although I'm probably confusing that with "Excalibur") but I'm sure Liam Neeson does have a role in "Krull." Watching as an adult made me go, "Ooh, it's pretty funny...in that cheesy way." So, not a great movie on its own. It did have an arcade game where you'd use the glaive to kill all oncoming enemies and I loved that too. Oh, and I LOVED the movie "Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension."

Thadman

Rob said that he was surprised that kids in 2045 know this stuff. At the beginning, when Wade was talking about life there, he talked about how, I think in the Stacks especially, the 80s ruled. But, maybe he said that it was a general thing in the Oasis, but I think he said The Stacks.

Thadman

Yes, so did we. It's called The Charm of Making, I believe.

Calbah

Listen to the audiobook if you get a chance. Wil Wheaton is the narrator.

When he holds up the stereo at the end (which itself is a nod to Say Anything), the song We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister is from a montage in the movie Iron Eagle.

Anthony Ancona

I love Duran Duran!

We will be doing it Saturday/Sunday. October began today :)

Webster

Are we still getting Django today?

TheGrouch74

The hot actress that was puzzling you where you know her from was Hanna John Kamen and you probably recognise her as playing Ghost in Ant Man and the Wasp 😘

James

I was not expecting to see the shinning that was actually crazy. There were soooo many references to other movies, characters and games in this movie

Brenda Schmitt

The incantation to activate and deactivate the orb is from the 1981 movie Excalibur. I recognized it immediately because, as kids, we all memorized it after seeing that movie.

blorgins

What an incredible surprise, one of my top 10 favorites!

Nathan Hill

Oh hell yeah. This movie was made for y’all

Jenny Lee Villanueva

Iron Giant movie is amazing

Bradley Weeks

Oh yeah. Goldeneye+oddjob+slappers only on license to kill=ridiculous amounts of fun.😁

Bradley Weeks

I used to play adventure. I never found the easter egg. I didn't know about it until decades later. This movie is a nostalgia trip. So much fun. I enjoyed your (surprise) reaction to it. Thank you Both!😀

Kim Magee

Yay great movies

PhoenixReturns

Noice, double bonus movies ^^

Dude, this movie is so much better than Free Guy it's not even funny.

The security head you said looks familiar was Ava Starr from Antman and the Wasp, the girl who kept phasing. Such a shame you couldn't have paused the movie during the mass crowd scenes, it's fun to try to see how many characters you can identify. It's a miracle they got permission to use so many known characters. The power of Spielberg I guess. I've identified one worrying issue too, right at the start, when Sorrento goes to meet i-R0k, you had no recognition of the noise and beast behind him. You NEED to watch War of the Worlds. You didn't recognise the Nolan actor? He's Ben Mendelsohn, he played Talos, leader of the Skrulls, from MCU/Captain Marvel. He's done other stuff too obviously but some of those might be spoilers.

Woke up for bathroom, checked my notifications before going back to bed. Am not going to sleep now for sure 🤪 love this movie. What a treat 💜💜

Jack's World

FUCK YESSSS I fucking love this film so much!! I had to read the book for school & loved that too! Not terribly serious, but an absolute blast! So many cameos, so many real world future implications & just an all around feel good film 😄

Scarlett Monrow

The book is great! I strongly recommend it. The game itself, the clues and challenges are really well thought out. In the book, Wade REALLY earns that second life, not just gets a "cheating" gift. Book is a bit darker (minor character deaths).
