This is why my grandkids are home schooled. When my youngest daughter was a Senior I got an alert on my phone that her school was on lockdown. Nothing like getting to the school not knowing what's going on and they won't let you in or tell you anything and fire trucks, EMS, Police everywhere. Ended up a kid brought a gun to school. He didn't shoot anyone but it was enough for me to drink a pint of Silver Patron that night to sleep.

Sadly, school shootings are far too common in the US. One is too many, but we're on another level over here. I will say if a kid walks in to a school with a full auto MAC-10 and starts dropping people, that would definitely make international headlines.

school-shooting incidents in K–12 U.S. schools (as best as the data allow) and with the caveat that some include any gun brandished or bullet hitting school property, others only shootings with injuries/fatalities: 2015 ~ 37 incidents 2016 ~ 51 incidents 2017 ~ 42 incidents 2018 ~ 44 incidents 2019 ~ 52 incidents 2020 ~ 22 incidents 2021 ~ 74 incidents 2022 ~ 80 incidents 2023 ~ 82 incidents 2024 ~ 83 incidents
