Being an intentionally underinformed American, I often passively think of Iran as being a backwards near medieval theocracy, but that's really not the case, and as new information continues to come out through you or new media outlets, it's hard to understand their abilities without understanding their productive capabilities. My apologies for not pledging with Patreon earlier. It struck me how much I look forward to your content (and other creators) and how little I watch most of my streaming services. Hullo from the US. Loved the episode, (are these episodes?) on the Baltics. 3 adoptive children from Latvia. It is one of my favorite places in the world and very, very few Latvians, want to see the return of the Russians. When we were there over Easter in 2016, the Easter Parade in Riga was mostly military. Mostly Latvian units of course. I was very proud to see the US and other NATO contributions participating. The Latvians noticed and cheered for them. I can only imagine the reception they would get now. Keep up your phenomenal work.

We're taught in history class how important US industrial capacity was to winning WWII, so now that the industrial advantage (seemingly) sits squarely in China's court, I worry about our ability to sustain an extended war in the Asia-Pacific if it were to break out.

Would be the shortest video ever and not sure if we would hear you crying or laughing more than any other video ever done; it certainly would open you up to epic sarcasm against our governments malfeasance and dereliction of duty to its military and citizens. Hell, at this stage the USA could take us over and we would be happy about it. Russia in the arctic, Trudeau would give it to the USA and call it a day as reparation towards global warming. It's probably useful just to act crazy enough to actually do it without necessarily having a serious intention to do so. Keep Russia guessing, keep Russia nervous. 'Cause it's sort of a wild coin toss calculus to make: On the one hand, it would be incredibly provocative for France to send troops to Ukraine. On the other hand, it would be incredibly provocative for Russia to fire on them. It would not take a lot of French troops to be deployed to upend everyone's thinking: If Russia didn't know at all times where all of them are then it could not really afford to risk shooting or bombing anything.

Is there any chance in the long term of a hyper-focused video on the Russian decision to attack Crimea in 2014? I can't help but feel like it wound up being one of the biggest self-owns in history given all the negatives it generated for Russia, but that it seemed like a reasonable idea at the time. I feel like a video really coming to grips with that moment and trying to understand it would help out a lot with understanding the Ukraine War and Russia's ever-worsening geostrategic position as a whole.

Have you considered doing a defence strategy on the ROC (Taiwan)? Timeliness aside there may be some interesting considerations around deterrence and asymmetric defense in a largely marine space, especially with the recent example of Ukraine pioneering new naval tactics. Taiwan may have gone in a different direction with their latest PSCs. Also their challenges and possible opportunities in procuring new systems, mobilization, etc and diplomatic relations with allies like Japan, the US, etc.

As always, all the choices are excellent. However, I did find some to pick over others. The Arctic was my first pick, and that one seems to be popular with others as well. I took a tourist trip to the Arctic Svalbard, and that was interesting to learn about. It belongs to Norway, but they cannot stop those from other countries setting up shop. And, I believe the Russians have done just that. We were told it is the only treaty signed at Versailles after WW1 that has survived. The arctic may be why Putin made comments about getting Alaska back. I still remember the video of a reporter asking a government spokesperson about this. He was surprised, but was clear "they are not getting it back".

I don't know if this is up your alley, but I've wondered why Ukraine doesn't seem to make an effort to take out the trains that Russia uses to bring supplies as far west as possible. There are a limited number of train lines, and I'd like to think that since trains aren't jet planes, it wouldn't be that hard to have train spotters along some of the main lines.

A deep dive into the cyber domain of warfare, missile defense/BMD, and then if you could do a country defense strategy video of Switzerland, that would be amazing and special (am Swiss). Also, this may be a bit in the past, but I haven't seen that many detailed analyses of the latest Armenian/Azeri conflict in the Nagorno Karabakh, so a video on that might be cool as well. How about a video on all the private, ad hoc groups supporting Ukraine, e.g. United24, NAFO, 69th Sniffing Brigage, Ukraine Volunteer Center. What is the scale of these efforts? Are they having an effect?

I think this would actually make the UK an incredibly good topic for Perun to look at. On paper, the UK should be a very formidable military power: strong military history with some very well trained forces, a large budget (compared to most countries that aren't the USA or China), two aircraft carriers, permanent at sea nuclear detterant, some very capable land equipment etc. At the same time, the force appears to be creaking at the edges and struggling to hold together with severe recruitment and retention issues. Most analysts looking at the British MOD focus on one aspect or the other but I think Perun would do a very good job of looking at the issues it faces in context to provide a nuanced picture of what is going on

Hi Perun, first time I've voted for more than one! As an Australian, reindustrualisation is quite the hot topic and as the unsinkable carrier for the USMC, Australians particularly should be informed of what they're up to. Singapore is vital to us also; They're all great topics. I'm not sure people in the southern hemisphere quite get the importance of the Arctic though, particularly with all the tension around the Suez and climate change affecting Panama. It may soon be as contested as the Tibetan plateau is now - who knows. Great topics all and I enjoy your insights no matter what the subject.

Im voting for "This destroys armies..." with a suggestion of: Urban warfare/counterinsurgency/ long-term occupation. Israel's report about their last incursion into Lebanon, plus US experience in Vietnam and Iraq is that doing these missions both ended badly AND actually really deformed and damaged those armies. And not just in casualties and lost equipment: These missions are almost inherently demoralizing, politically divisive, and often make militaries themselves domestically unpopular and serving in them voluntarily unattractive. They also tend to elevate the worst sort of officers (either brutal towards civilians or extremely cautious unto the point of being totally paranoid).

You've talked about arms exports, orders and stocks of specific countries. Given that the west owns 75% of arms exports, I'm wondering how current stocks + domestic production + imports of countries compare. The reason I'm interested is that I'm worried that the west is fueling the arms race, making the world more dangerous instead of safer. But I can imagine that the expected manufacturing volumes and stocks of Russia & China actually require all this new equipment. I'm not sure how to compare. Does Sipri also track manufacturing for domestic use? I think it would be possible to compile data on a sort of "balance of power projection" based on TIVs. Translating current stocks to TIVs and add current annual TIV deliveries per year, would give a rough "balance of power" graph. There are a lot of caviats to this methods. Though if there are huge outliers, it would be interesting food for thought.

An economic look into incentives that work and don't work to getting people to be willing to fight and kill. It is really hard to conceptualize how it can feel to be in a situation where you have such a high chance of literally not experiencing anything in a split second due to combat. I don't want a medal, I just want out of the whole situation. It is hard to put a price on being a soldier and how desperate I'd have to be to do it.
