Poll on topic timing
🕑 Added 2024-11-06 12:20:13 +0000 UTCG'day all,
Firstly an apology that I've had to delay some of the extra Patron content (and gaming content) I wanted to do until next week given how eventful this one has been.
Second question is a poll to get a steer from you all.
Before the US election I framed up two videos - one per outcome, looking at what this might mean for the war in Ukraine, looking at levers, options, and the math in more depth. They're not finished, but the skeletons were there are ready to go.
What I did not expect was the relatively quick result we got, so I had scheduled the topic for next week. This week was meant to be a systems video on Rocket Artillery.
At this point though, with a result clear I'm considering reversing the order and bringing the Ukraine after the election topic forward, but also balancing that against my desire to let the smoke clear a little.
I'm going to sleep on the question, but really wanted to know what you would prefer me to do.
All the best

I don't know that I'll be able, personally, to watch that video. I want to have hope, but...Goddamnit

Social media campaigns far easier to pull off than kinetic campaigns

The political philosophy youtuber Vlad Vexler has in my opinion some well informed takes related to these topics. Not sure if he has a video specifically answering your question. He has some good ones on Russia's internal propaganda and how it's more often about crowding the information space to make Russians feel "argh too complicated, easier to leave these things to the government to sort out", more so than getting them to think "Russia strong!". With the west they combine this experience with exploiting the declining trust in our institutions.

Either or is good but if its not something on your radar I would love an eventual episode on the security issues in Haiti and what could become the impacts of this in NA
Thomas Bernecky
When you do address the election results, please include ways for those of us can continue to help Ukraine? Thanks for the excellent info you've shared with us over the last 3 years, Perun.
Alexis Jouanneaux
I personally think that this can be explained by the fact that russia is actively doing this for many many years and probably spent a lot researching how to mess with people, internally or externally. And it’s something western countries simply can’t do morally or politically (except to mess with themselves apparently).
David Cruz
Rocket first. Still too depressed to fully enjoy the one about the elections (beside the fact that some dust is still settling and some of the reactions to the win could provide hints)
James Mathieson
Rocket 1st as there still Trying to figure out what happen and the House and Senate are things
John Vissenga
just feel that rockets first will give us all a chance to get over the emotions and have a chance to get more analytical but as always it has to be your choice ....... your ball, your game
Chel
Matey won't talk about anything regarding Emutopia.

As a moderate, I am also profoundly depressed at the results of the recent election - not just for the effect on myself and America, but on the potentially tragic consequences on the world as a whole. I pray that other countries have the strength and determination to continue the fight that we are cowardly running from.
Alexis Jouanneaux
I think everyone should keep themselves together and start doing so by not giving up on hope. Political crises in the past were met with steadfast resolve by our fathers, not with panic and despair. I also think everyone is talking about Trump right now so the rocket video is probably better until the dust settles a bit, and honestly tired to see trump victory news 24/7.
Scheraus
It is amazing to me that Russia has been so extraordinarily inefficient with its massive military, and yet so exceptionally effective with its Byzantine approach to sowing dissension in opponents and creating distracting crises. Would it be too difficult to do a talk on how Putin's background in the KGB may be affecting his approach to problems (and his apparent success) at a subtler kind of warfare? I realize that this might be slightly outside your wheelhouse, but I would point to your fantastic job of clearly outlining the corrosive effects of corruption on a military as a counter-example.

Republican California American here (an endangered species): Didn't vote for Trump (again) because I don't like his style and because of his ambiguity on Ukraine, despite my multiple missives personally to him imploring him to take an unambiguous public stand in support of Ukraine. But, as a lawyer, I'm used to loud-mouthed New Yorkers with a transactional ideology. And I think/believe that, under proper influence (Mike Pompeo, et. al.) he could come around to being much better for Ukraine than the dribble-dribble-dribble of "support" from the Biden Russia-appeaser cabal. So, I look forward to your thoughts, but counsel that you give it another week before pontification. Plus, rockets are more fun for now!
Colorado Pete
As an American, I’m sorry for the craziness that this old, demented, lying, treasonous, hateful, convicted felon and sex offender will inflict on our partners and the world. (Great presidential qualities, right) So Sorry.
Colorado Pete
I am too mad and depressed that Trump was re-elected. I regret that this doesn’t bode well for Ukraine. Please delay that topic for a week, so I can reestablish my sanity.
Michael Imbesi
Definitely rockets. Otherwise it’ll look like you’re piggybacking off of Anders Puck Nielsen, who just released a video on that subject.
JennyR
I feel like this election result is very emotional for many people. It would probably be a good idea to give them some more time to collect themselves.
Michael Imbesi
Rockets please. One source of misery and despair per week is more than enough.
Michael Imbesi
Many of us here are as well.
Jeremy
American here, I'm feeling so many feelings of despair and depression right now. I'm sorry world, we let you down, we tried so hard 😭 A rocket video this week would be nice so that I can process and be in analysis mode by the time the following video drops.
Kati Byrne
Yep, we need a bit of distance from the last week's events - including the German government collapse - before being able to bear thinking about Ukraine again
BlackKyiv
It’s better to aim for the quality, not hotness of the topic.
Strawberry GS
I'm now curious about both videos -- do Patrons get to see the one that won't see the light of day?
Aussie Badger
Save the rockets to send them to the Whitehouse on Jan 7 let the dust settle then see where we are! 🫤 Joking.. or am I? 🤔
Philip Nunn
Definitely not proud to be an American right now
Aussie Stevo
This is a great topic for a Perun investigation. Will Australia ever get Virginia class boats. What are the alternatives?
Falling5tar
Take your your time. They're both gonna come out anyways
Stargazer
in addition to releasing the 'accurate' history video to the general public, I'd request, since you have it done anyway, that you release to us paying Patreons only, maybe a less polished, version of the alternate outcome so we can see a bit of 'alternate history'
Henry Chang
Yes. I'm depressed.
Brian Fane
Rockets are a nice distraction from the disaster here
Ole Larsen
Seems sensible to give it a little bit of time to see if something becomes clearer but also I got to say that I'm not wildly keen to hear about Trump. It's important I know but also kind of depressing
David N
Tee hee, from the few comments that I looked at, most everyone seems to be of like mind, that must be a first!
David N
Rockets then Ukraine so that there is a bit of time to just what is happening with the USA.
Wedge Antilles
Rockets first - you're approach to let a little time go by to get a better picture has worked perfectly fine for you in the past. No matter what topic it was about.
suntiger745
Go for the rockets. I think there needs to be a little time before the US election result is tackled, even with a clear victory.
Flavio Briatore
@Perun. Hey mate, let the dust settle regardless of him winning. I reckon you should pop out the video of Rocket Artillery. Would be interesting to listen to it's development and battlefield impact. I fear for what this victory may mean for the Ukrainians. Thank You for continuing to educate me.

I think waiting is better. Give us an extra week to get desensitized to the horror of it all.
Gregory Budziszewski
Still in shock about whom a majority of US voters picked as their choice for US President. Mind Boggling 🤷🏻♂️
Brave Sir Roger
my tuppence: rockets now while the dust settles and might also give time for some policy ideas/tweets to emerge.
Kerry L Werry
Rockets first that might give some time for world reaction as well and the whole thing to sink in...
Shaun Parry
Just some decent Aussie humour to cheer us all up. Do your best, as ever.
KapitainZino
I don‘t care what Trump says (a pathological liar) but I care what Perun says. So let‘s Perun talk. The topic is hot and we need a good analysis of what comes ahead. So the rockets makes it.
Peter Bölke
Meh...better rockets first. A fried sausage with mustard on top and crime records in its pockets got president of the US again. Hell
Marco Fris
Better to take the time to let it all sink in. Rockets first for me.
Hyperious
We failed you Ukraine... I'm so sorry...
Julian Wälde
if you had gone for a incredible bad taste joke option like "Rockets to the US" I would have clicked it just to spite myself.
JKvdA
Don't know. What would Donald say?
blank
Slightly off topic, one of the comments I saw after the results: "Australia's never gonna get our submarines are we..."
Paul Haynes
He uploads a podcast version a day or two later, which you can obviously download. I use Podcast Addict to listen - not a great app, but the only place I've found Perun so far.
Paul Savarskyy
Wait for the smoke to clear for sure
Jarrett
Off topic. But have you ever considered putting your topic on nebula? I think your content is of the quality and thoroughness the nebula platform markets on. Just a thought. Good luck on both videos, I’m sure we’ll enjoy them regardless of which you post first.
Bob Ogden
There WILL be fallout from the election, better to get some clarity
Shaarred
Not to be a bother, but is there a chance you could upload your videos to patreon too? I know I've asked this before, but I usually listen to you when walking my dog and I'd appreciate having to spend less mobile data while doing so.
Andrew Roby
Always wise to take a breath and give these thing time to percolate. The new administration now has more leeway to speak to their plans for supporting Ukraine (or not), and I'd at least give them the chance to do so.
Treebeard1224
I'd say do the rocket artillery video first. That'll give time to let the dust settle on the election and more things to be more certainly known.
Andrew Bethards
Even with a relatively clear result, it’s still best to let the dust settle some.
Murali Suriar
Take your time. There will be lots of hot takes from other quarters.
Kyle E Johnson
This is the precise reason he should wait. Everyone in America is wondering what the hell this means for the future. Desperately looking for answers, or celebrating and looking for good news as a victory lap. But, we simply don't know. He's a wild card with tendencies, but like every president, the people surrounding him matter just as much, if not more. We need more information.
Tara Summers
It's important to have a clear view to make decent analysis, so let the rockets fly and lets wait for the smoke to clear a bit before we assess today's damage.
alexander gaitan
I'd wait until next week and stick to your planned schedule. Things are going to get bad in the US.
Simon Nygaard Jensen
Rockets first so the smoke can clear a bit
Hugo Nolan
Depends on what you want. If you want to ruminate on the result and get your thoughts in order, gauge reactions and responses a bit, go rockets first. If you want to get your video out while the result is fresh, do that first. Riding the algorithm a bit is perfectly acceptable for something this big. We'll enjoy both, ya legend.
cruisey1987
I say wait, see how the coming weeks pan out. Also, how can anyone say no to rockets
Martin
Let it settle for a few days. There's no point in rushing it. You've done that in the past and it was always the better choice.
ScootyMcPooty
I would say your intuition to wait until the smoke clears would be the correct one. Let us see how leaders in Europe and Asia react to this news and how the US adjusts to this.
bill jackson
The question is:- with broad bicameral and bipartisan support for Ukraine - is he against Ukraine?
Andrew Maltby
You could do the election one first to get in early and increase your views, but you have a reputation for waiting until you ‘know’ so I’d make sure the results are correct before doing election content
BaccoDesinhibire Germanicus
I'd say keep the original plan, that way you can dedicate more time to it and gather your thoughts more clearly
Stephen Richard Vavasseur
I….am just done. Your content may be a small comfort coming up here soon. My country actively chose the man collaborating with Putin.
