Yeah the fact he is the embodiment of the god particle is something that is only hinted at occasionally. Rewatching I see a lot of clues to the power of love throughout but it's so low-key it makes it seem plot-less. The ending is one of my favorite in all anime I'd put it up with Full metal alchemist brotherhood for twists and satisfaction
