Chapter 8 Release Date Announcement
🕑 Added 2025-09-06 20:49:58 +0000 UTCSo yesterday, when I was posting the steam announcement, I was half-tempted to make a joke that I was going to hold the release of Chapter 8 until I hit a certain milestone in steam wishlists. I decided against it, because I'm forever worried that people read my humour wrong, and might genuinely think I was holding the release hostage for the sake of greed.
Turns out, it wouldn't have mattered! I already passed that milestone in just over 24 hours. You guys continue to astound me. Thank you.
I'm not saying what that milestone I was thinking was, but I will say it's still FAR from what I'm really hoping for in order to get a great steam release. So, if you haven't already, please drop me a wishlist here.
Couple of changes to the rollout schedule:
Normie tier no longer receives the update 2 days before "public release date". Reason being is that I no longer release the game for free anymore. So from now on, the Normie Tier release date is now the official release date.
As a result of the above, Manifested tier now receive the update 2 days before official release, whereas previously it was 4. Trainee tier 4 instead of 6.
The higher tiers, however... have not had those decreased, in fact, they have been increased. Gods will receive the game 14 days before official release, Legends 12 days and Heroes 10 days. I'm experimenting here. Every release, we have the same issue. Someone signs up to a lower tier, leaks the game and immediately cancels. It renders the early access benefits of those paying to support me on a higher level, pointless. This is my way of trying putting some distance between those who pay more to support Origin Story's development and those who'll take the cheap option to leak the game and, frankly, do the exact opposite of support it.
So there it is. Hold on to your butts for a couple of weeks. I hope you all enjoy it.
SLIGHT AMENDMENT TO THIS: The OppaiMan Store was originally built with the promise of helping smaller developers promote their games, with no caveats. At some point after my first release there, this then changed to "we will only promote you as long as you promote us". This was something I disagreed with, but was fine to not be promoted as long as I could host my game there still.
However, this has changed even further. Now, after finding out that mine, and many other developers' games, have essentially been delisted because we have not promoted them, I will no longer be releasing any further updates of Origin Story on the OppaiMan Store. So, there is no longer an OppaiMan release date.

I love the story and your work Jdor and it is absolutely crap the lack of respect people have for the hard work you guys put into these. Whilst I wish I could afford to be a monthly pledge, I will always buy your updates when they are released.

I hope the 8 is a little longer than 7. As far as people who leak your hard work, f'em. Isn't there a way in python for you to issue a key? So the key gets registered like with Steam, just register it with a persons Patreon email. Then when the first run of a new chapter, they put in email and key and get a verification email they need to click? There has to be a way for you to protect your work.

Unknown. The store page literally only just went live two days ago. Generally, games need thousands of wishlists to have a relatively successful launch, so it may be a few months before I feel comfortable releasing it... and naturally it will also be down to the powers that be on Steam and how long it takes them to approve the actual build of the game itself.

No, if you've already paid on Itch the update should just be free for you on there after the itch release date (Oct 2nd). At least that's what I'm led to believe. This is my first update since it stopped being free on there so I'm not fully aware of how it works yet. I guess I'll find out soon.

i wish i had the money to support the game monthy, sadly i dont hence why im looking forward to the steam release. Keep up the good work. Also, MC's *spoiler* is super hot. Cant wait to see that back story.

Upgraded my pledge - love your game, Jonathan its 0105 am here now, have to write the mission report for another hour after cleaning equipment for nearly 2 hours... Haha then i go to sleep and i hope i will be dreaming of all the lovely ladies from Origin Story... As for the leakers - i hate such people, they have no character, no principles and no honor - and from my perspective they can rot in hell - the world is better without you... Jdor - these changes are absolutely justified and i support that my brother... I am tired and grumpy now, so gn8 folks, i love you...π«‘π―β€οΈ

Now I wonder, how many Steam wishlists did you want to achieve in a day? No matter, you did it π₯³! Another dev I follow, who launched his game last week, passed 25K wishlist and was expressing his gratitude. I was going to comment that the release dates aren't there, but it turns out they are in the image. I'm telling you, it's easier to be mesmerised by Emerald π€© than to read the barely legible text in the image. Please write it in the post as well π. And the high tiers have the consolation of the dozens of special renders you share, and the joy of supporting the project even if it gets leaked π.

Hey. Yeah, the likelihood is a steam version will be completely separate so you'd have to start from scratch. I'm gonna assume you mean Season 1 there, in which case it's chapter 1 to 8.
