Could this also be a possibility in reality say for example Kai's mom becomes his sister and reality makes to where his grandparents are actually Kai's and his mothers parents. Could that also be possible?

It will change reality in the easiest possible way. For example, in this case, Kai might become an orphan in a foster home or a twin to one of his classmates. However, magic can't affect someone's magic power, else witches/wizards could just transform into someone with higher magic. Whether they know they have magic or not would be the question (hence why they need a magic tether that's easily accessible).
