That final moment is definitely not cringe, it's perfect. They were basically all cowering in fear of death as they realised how helpless they are, but Natsu reminded them that they have each other. Did they think they could still win? Probably not. Would they have one had Lily and Happy destroyed the heart? Probably not. This entire scene was Natsu pretty much telling them that "well we might and probably will die here but we got each other, so there's nothing to fear. It's kinda sad when you think about it, they still acknowledge that they'll probably die realistically but they're going to keep moving until they no longer can. Like Wendy and Erza said, "Even if we don't have any magic power left... we won't give up until the very end. THATS WHAT IT MEANS TO BE FAIRY TAIL!"
