It always has been serious to an extent but Tartaros literally started with a bang where we see straight up mass murder. Like as early as episode 15 of the show, shit was serious, with Ultear using Iced Shell, and then we got the Tower of Heaven arc like 2 arcs later where we saw child enslavement and torture 💀 but this was next level crazy where we actually see characters who've been in the show for a minute get clapped

When Makarov lied to Freed about the town being safe... pain This one of the first times we actually get to see civilian casualties, practically the first time ever in the entire show Not even when 7 dragons came and wrecked it did we hear that anyone died >_< shits serious this arc. Fairy Tail defo beating the "happy go lucky/no serious allegations" lmao
