I honestly don't believe that Zeref knew August was his and Mavis's son, and that leads more credibility to the immaculate conception argument IMO. Zeref IS that smart, and if he and Mavis didn't do the deed, them having a kid wouldn't even be on his mind. There is more to this thought that I can't reveal quite yet...but soon. August vs Irene? I think Irene wins that fight.
