im re-watching this with my partner, its her first time watching, but in my re-watch there is so many instances of gin helping ichigo and his team along in subtle/not so subtle ways. from his first appearance simply pushing ichigo out of the Seireitei instead of just killing him. even in hueco mundo

What's great about Gin's zanpakuto is that its shikai name is pretty much gods spear, showing his loyalty to Aizen while the bankai is god killing spear. Showing that his ultimate goal of his soul, is to go against Aizen, it also turns to dust just like Rangiku's, showing their connections of souls.
