Yeah back when it was released in the manga, with all the hiatus, we had a lot of time to wonder what would happen with the King. Would he survive, become good, will the experience of Netero win over the brute strength of the new born king... well, you'll soon find out!

Your question makes sense, why does Netero want to fight the king? Episode 125 will give you more info about Netero's motivations, why he doesn't just carry out his plan to take out the king (or try to)
