The guy was lava-bending, a subset of earthbending. Just like waterbending has bloodbending, firebending has lightning, and earth has either metalbending or the more uncommon special ability to lavabend.

I'm not sure if ya'll caught it, but Ming Hua doesn't have arms.. like at all. This gives her a really unique style of bending that I cant wait for ya'll to react to.

I know that Aang dies at 60 something, been in the iceberg for 100 years took a lot of energy from him so he died young for an avatar's life and Sokka died young too as far as I know. Kai gives me some Aang's vibe I don't know why...but he does, and Ghazan is a Lavabender is like metalbending but is a more weird skill.
