I'm not fully up to date with the show but Jonathan became an archaeologist so I guess his dad could gave also been very into that sort of stuff, hence why the stone mask was on their wall and why they probably just bought it off some people like the sailors that Zeppeli sailed with as that's how the original Zeppeli's dad died, he put on the mask.

UV light is the light that comes from the sun but there are also UV flashlights, thats why the lights are killing the vampires but as well powering the mask with the stone in it
