After watching this episode again, I realize Kirito's words here and his mindset are setting up for future plot and antagonists in later seasons. Saying anything more would be spoiling. It sort of makes sense here, but it's questionable. It makes more sense later on in a sense of character development for other characters. I don't know where the author plans on ending with the story because the anime hasn't finished yet, but this concept seems to be an important one later on.
