so in the manga zeff actually used a rock to cut off his leg and eat it, the whole cutting off his leg to save sanji was like a way of censoring that.

One Piece has some of the best backstory/flashback moments. Almost always important, impactful, and emotional. Definitely one of the most notable strengths of the show.
