Wow that is a massive bull By the way most scanners have an "advanced mode" in their PC software that gives you manual controls for all of the settings (much like manual mode on a camera) and there you can open up the dynamic range some more so that the whites and blacks don't saturate and loose detail. Scanners saturate them on purpose by default because it looks better on text and people would complain if the paper is light gray instead of white or if the paper texture was visible. Can gladly help if you need more detailed info.
