This might be the Voidpunk in me, but I'd like to see one with the idea that you'd be a scientist trying various tests (the triggers) on... Whatever in unreality we are. Think SCP style experiment type setting.

Maybe a conductor/ticket master on a train ride? Lots of gentle ambient noise potential. Scissors for a ticket puncher? Maybe we’ve misplaced our ticket (rustling and/or paper)? Oh, if we get a tour then you can have crackling fire and coal scooping noises for the engine boiler.
