Chapter 401: Is a Mage a Cleaner?
🕑 Added 2025-09-30 06:07:57 +0000 UTC"Indeed..."
Seeing this scene, Noah couldn't help but feel a little dumbfounded. Were they taking his group as a breakthrough point? He looked around and realized that none of them seemed easy to deal with. Odin, needless to say, and his personal guards were all seventh-tier beings! Thor was already eighth-tier, and while Loki was a bit weaker, he was still a mage close to the seventh-tier.
Such a lineup, if they wanted to attack and destroy a planet, it wouldn't be impossible Odin holding the line, and Noah and the others playing freely. But why did these Dark Elves choose this place? This puzzled Noah greatly.
However, Noah wouldn't overthink others' choices. He only knew that he would probably have to have a good chat with these Dark Elves.
"Odin! Long time no see!"
The massive mothership slowly descended, and large numbers of Dark Elf warriors, led by Malekith, stepped onto Asgardian soil. The white-haired Dark Elf leader stood at the front of his ranks, head held high, looking directly at the Asgardians before him, especially Odin who stood at the very front.
"It has indeed been a while. Let me see, hundreds of years or thousands of years?" Odin pretended to recall, then mockingly ridiculed Malekith with a poker face. To be honest, it wasn't a big deal for both sides to have a 'friendly' exchange before the battle. Although it made Noah feel a bit like a medieval knight's duel, it was better for the spectator to remain silent.
However, to Noah's surprise, Malekith didn't seem to like trash talk. After stating his purpose of reclaiming the Aether and returning the universe to darkness, he directly ordered an attack. This was a classic example of "no half-truths when words don't align." Noah suddenly started to like this guy. At least, as a villain, he seemed to have relatively few pointless ramblings, didn't he?
"Oh? He's a man of action!"
Noah muttered a slight complaint, but didn't move immediately. He stood calmly in place and casually cast a spell. Under the effect of this spell, all energy blasts, whether intentional or unintentional, flying towards him basically disappeared in mid-air. Thor and Loki had already charged forward, and Odin's guards also joined the battle with them. However, Noah could see that the guards were basically just going through the motions.
Their main purpose was to protect Thor and Loki; as long as the two of them weren't ambushed or fatally wounded, they wouldn't interfere much.
"Indeed, they're treating this place as a training ground for their sons."
Seeing this scene, Noah couldn't help but sigh. To be honest, Thor and Loki charging into battle was like hungry wolves entering a flock of sheep. Those Dark Elves were simply no match for Thor and Loki. Blue arcs of electricity and silver frost continuously erupted from the center of the battlefield, almost visibly.
"Loki's progress this year is largely due to your care," just as Noah was thoroughly enjoying watching the 'Hollywood special effects blockbuster,' Odin's voice suddenly reached his ear.
"This is Loki's own effort, Your Majesty Odin," Noah immediately dismissed his thought of watching and replied to Odin very seriously. Loki indeed relied on his own efforts. The help Noah gave him this year was probably nothing but setbacks. Well, if telling him a new path forward counted, then perhaps Noah had helped Loki a lot, right?
"Is the frost power Loki is now using from the Casket of Ancient Winters?"
"Uh..."
Just as Noah was slowly recalling and pondering, Odin
spoke again. And this time, Noah finally understood what Odin was looking for him for. It turned out to be about this problem after all. Thinking carefully, this seemed
like the most normal thing.
Actually, Odin was also quite depressed. After being stimulated by Noah's magic that simulated the universe, he rarely checked on Loki's life on Earth. He never expected Loki to return like this, which forced Odin to finally ask.
"Yes," Noah nodded very honestly. "The Casket of Ancient Winters is very suitable for Loki. Both the attribute and nature of the power are almost tailor-made for him. So..."
"I understand what you mean, child, it's just..." Odin frowned, but he still spoke, "It's just that Loki using this power will have some undesirable effects on him."
"Are you referring to him turning back into a Frost Giant?" Noah wasn't stupid; how could he not know what Odin was thinking?
"Yes. Loki is Asgard's Loki. I believe both he and I are very much in agreement on this. So I'm very curious, why would he choose to do this?"
Odin sounded very confident when he said this, but his confidence was indeed correct. Odin understood his son very well. Although Loki wasn't a true Asgardian, he had grown up in Asgard and had deep affection for it. He also had a lot of love for his family in his heart. Although Loki's personality was very mischievous, and he sometimes impulsively did some bad things, his essence wasn't bad. He was also very intelligent when he calmed down. One could say Odin secretly liked him very much.
Otherwise, given the trouble Loki had caused, setting aside everything else, just his alliance with Thanos would have been enough for Odin to send him to the chopping block. But Odin clearly didn't do that. Instead, through Thor's 'redemption,' he appeased the situation with Loki, while not forgetting to punish his son.
"Your Majesty, do you still remember the magic where I transformed into a giant dragon?" Noah pondered for a moment, then asked.
"The magic where you transformed into a giant dragon?
Of course I remember." How could Odin forget that magic? It was a magic that he, the Ancient One, and his wife Frigga had collectively helped Noah create.
Moreover, that magic truly took a lot of their time and effort, so Odin remembered it vividly.
Suddenly, Odin paused. He seemed to know what the boy wanted to convey. As an intelligent person, if he couldn't understand what was meant by such a hint, then Odin would probably have to call himself senile. This made Odin take a good look at Noah. He had to admit, this boy really thought a lot.
Noah's magic, when used normally, transformed one person into two independent lives, but controlled by a single will. But what about the other way around? While Loki's form issue couldn't be considered two independent lives, it didn't prevent Loki from thinking about creating an Asgardian form! After achieving this step, Loki could completely reverse-engineer this magic to lock onto one form, and then Loki would be a true Asgardian!
However, Odin still knew the complexity of this magic, and he was even more familiar with his son's nature. He knew this method was good and very feasible, but could Loki actually achieve this step?
"You plan to help him?"
"Yes."
"Can you tell me why?"
"Besides thanking you and Queen Frigga for your help, it's also because Loki exchanged some Asgardian technology for it. Of course, I might have some matters to request your assistance with."
Noah spoke very directly. It wasn't that Noah didn't want to speak more subtly, but Noah felt it wasn't necessary. What kind of person was Odin? He had probably heard so many compliments and respectful words that his ears were calloused. Rather than being ineffective, Noah felt it was better to express his intentions clearly.
Moreover, facing elders like these, speaking clearly was a profound realization Noah had gained after being lectured so many times. Noah still hadn't forgotten the feeling of being laughed at by the Ancient One that time; it truly made Noah feel foolish.
"Oh? What other help do you need from us, child?" Odin nodded; he also liked this way of speaking.
"I want to re-forge a staff. More accurately, it's not a staff, but a weapon that can change according to my thoughts, amplify my magic, and carry Infinity Stones."
Noah voiced his idea. He had been planning this for a long time. However, he had been busy with other matters recently, so he basically had no time to do this. Now was an excellent opportunity.
"Is that so?" Odin nodded, understanding Noah's meaning.
"If that's the case, you might need to do a few more things."
"Oh? What is it?" Noah wasn't surprised, just curious about what else Odin needed him to do.
"Do you see these invaders?" Odin suddenly pointed at the group of Dark Elves. "Do me a favor and clean these guys up. I'm old now, and standing here in the wind isn't good for my health. I'll go back and write a letter to the dwarves for you. That would be good for you too, don't you think?"
"..."
You're old? Standing here in the wind isn't good for your health? Are you kidding me?!
Noah almost rolled his eyes. He looked back at the
current battlefield and immediately understood Odin's meaning these Dark Elves clearly didn't meet his sons' training requirements because they were simply too weak now. Such cannon fodder indeed didn't need to waste time. And conveniently, Noah was a mage very skilled in large-scale magic, so this laborious task was perfectly suited for Noah. This left Noah a bit speechless, but he ultimately nodded. At least Odin was going to help him write a letter to the dwarves.
"What a bunch of annoying cannon fodder. Am I, a mage of my type, just a cleaner? It seems I need to practice my swordsmanship..."
