Monkey Business in Gravesfield 3

I don’t like surprises. Especially when those could potentially kill my friends.
If there is something I carried through which I will never part away from despite being a ‘full human’ now is the healthy amount of paranoia I have of ‘weird’ people. I may be called many things because of this mindset, but there is a pattern when many of those with specific oddities are to be considered, such as shapeshifters and energy-drainers.
While Vee seemed to not be a baddie, I was familiar with potential turncoats and… and I didn’t need that to happen again. At this point, however, this was all a matter of thoughts than of potential actions.
I was in no genuine position to straight up check and get at the bottom of this. While the only restriction Chronoa had given me was to not use either SSJ3 or SSG on Earth unless there was a Time-Patroller-related affair, I still wasn’t going to ruin my cover just to check on the situation.
I could investigate it without putting myself at risk, and that should be more than enough to gauge what the hell is going on and what Vee is. For some reason, she didn’t recognize Ki and had a ‘strong reaction’ to it which means she was accustomed to weaker energy than what I could harness.
She was not someone from the ‘Dragon Ball Dimensions’, which alluded to something else entirely.
And I am utterly unsure on how this was even possible.
Chronoa had told me that my home dimension wasn’t supposed to have any major threats when she explained the situation about my initial predicament but… what if this was tied to another dimension?
After all, Masha had told me that ‘this new friend of theirs’ was someone that had joined a few months ago, which meant that Vee had come to Gravesfield long after I left.
So, something else came up which had dropped Vee in this dimension and… maybe more individuals to be worried about. Not a pleasant thought to have as I finished repotting a few plants at Auntie’s shop.
The place used to bring me some peace, but now I had so much to worry about. Masha too had missed me a ton. But while I was more than happy that they didn’t take my departure too hard, I knew that they had been hurt by it.
And I knew that when I noticed their messages from a month after I left.
Masha had come out as Non-Binary and they wanted me to know first from the date and overall approximation of their Twitter’s post on their public coming out.
And I… had not replied to that. And they had gone through a bit of a breakdown through the ensuing messages.
Masha didn’t blame me, but they did some self-blame that felt really jarring for me to read. I knew they had a bit of a point for feeling like crap because maybe they thought I wasn’t supportive or anything and…
I knew it wasn’t my fault either. but I couldn’t stop from feeling guilty about how things turned out to be. So, I promised to myself I was going to be 100% supportive, be around more, and try to be civil to Vee if she wasn’t truly a threat.
But I was never told the test for this matter had to come up so soon.
“Jay, could you please help me with Ms. Noceda? I can’t lift a box like this one nowadays.”
I froze up mid-repotting for a violet, glancing to the side as I saw Vee and… her ‘mother’. Camila Noceda was someone I do know about because she tended to visit the shop frequently. Either to bring flowers to her patients or to bring some to her late husband’s grave.
I wouldn’t say she was very close, but she was giving me a guarded look. And a glance aimed at Vee saw her squirm and confirm she said something to the bespectacled woman.
“Sure thing, auntie.”
The boxes were not a burden, but the tense walk to the car to load those in the vehicle sure felt like it. As I stepped out of the shop, I noticed there weren’t many people around, and Ms. Noceda used this chance to finally speak up.
“Jay?”
“Yes?” I mumbled with a hint of unease.
“Are you alright? Is everything going well for you” She inquired, offering a motherly concerned look.
“I am fine, just… thinking of a lot of stuff,” I admitted. I wasn’t depressed or anything, but while I may have some regrets I didn’t feel those hurting me too much. “So… did you know that Vee is-”
“Yes,” She replied kindly. “I understand you are worried for Masha, but Vee is quite harmless.”
I wanted to bring up the fact that she was an energy-eater but I could tell Ms. Noceda was not saying this without a degree of assurance. And as much as I could say we weren’t close, I still trusted her in this sort of stuff.
“I… I suppose I can trust her too then. But only as an acquaintance.”
Vee appeared surprised by this response. “Really?”
“I trust Ms. Noceda to not be giving help to someone that is not worthy of a degree of sympathy. And you… really don’t look intimidating.”
While at first she showed relief, Vee then offered a frown.
“W-What’s that supposed to mean?”
“You were literally purring when I gave you that energy sphere to feed on. I think i can tell when someone is far from dangerous to someone like me,” I answered flatly, leaving her to blush a bit as-
“I believe I need some explanation in that regard,” Camila asked with a deep frown.
“Vee eats on energy, I can produce a dense amount of it like this.” As I said this, I projected a sphere of ki which I quickly dispelled. “And she can eat it.”
Relief washed over the woman. “I see. One can never be too safe on some innuendos nowadays.”
Vee’s blush was back at the unexpected twist, while I… snorted.
“With all due respect, Ms. Noceda, I don’t believe I can treat acquaintances like that.”
She chuckled, and I smiled a bit more to Vee’s growing chagrin.
Still, nothing else happened beyond that, with the two Nocedas leaving with their cards and with me walking back to the shop. I had expected much more from this. Maybe some distrust and demands to know what was up with me.
But, once again, Ms. Noceda proved to be a nice woman all in all. Still, even though I had gone through this little test with nothing to worry about, I was left with a few more questions in regard to Vee’s current predicament.
After all, if Vee was seen by Camila as her daughter… What happened to Luz?

“So…” Vee hummed, looking away from her foster mother. “What do you think of him?”
“It is Jay, without a doubt,” Camilla assured, gaining a glance from the Basilisk. “But I can see something is different about him. Even without that curious energy thing.”
“Do you think he is a Witch?”
“No. I mean, do you?” Camilla glanced back at Vee. “I am not good at telling that much.”
“He is… not using magic,” Vee remarked, leaning back on her seat. “It’s… it’s weird. It’s energy, he’s not human and… and I don’t know what to say.”
Which is why she would have preferred to wait rather than let Camila go and have that talk. It ‘smoothed out’ some of the tension, there was no doubt in that, but it left them clueless on what was going on.
Whatever it was, Vee knew, it had to be huge. He was not a human, that was without any doubt, but she didn’t know what he was. Above a Witch, and definitely above… Belos. Or the Titan.
She remembered the description of Luz using a fraction of the Titan’s power, and what Jay had was far more than that. While ‘Titan Luz’ could match up with him to some extent, she could tell without hesitation that a full-powered Jay could potentially shred Luz apart.
Pulling out of these morbid thoughts, Vee realized she was going into the wrong direction. After all, he said he wasn’t a foe. And while actions were going to speak louder than words in that regard, Vee could feel it in her guts that this wasn’t going to get violent…
Unless she fucked up badly with Masha.
And considering how awkward and shy she was around them, that wasn’t exactly in the current realm of possibility. Beside that, Vee really didn’t have much to work with. Should the others be told of this? No.
In the end, Camila agreed it was best to not raise any unnecessary alarms and… she had a lot to ‘rethink’ on how to tackle this situation. After all, even though she kept quiet around him and tried to not be looked up a lot- something ‘yanked’ at Vee’s chest while around him.
It was like the same pull she had with Masha but… somewhat more ‘rough’ in the way it worked. If Masha was something of a smooth push towards the non-binary student, Jay was an outright shove. And one she knew her instincts were to blame for as she saw him as an endless source of food.
Her belly was already acting up at the thought of that unlimited supply of energy to siphon whenever hungry… and part of her also knew that he wasn’t bad-looking thus making it a ‘too-pleasant’ idea for her tastes.
Only time was going to tell how things were going to develop with this weird boy.
