Eri used to dislike evil people and once dreamed of being rescued by a hero.
She had dreamed so many pretty nights where some of the most known faces would just burst through the wall, hurt her daddy and then get her to safety. But years passed, and her hopes had grown bleak.
Same routine as usual: get carried to the lab, get a lot of her blood taken, get carried back to her room, eat and do other stuff, sleep and… back to square one. All day, not a single break. Not even during her birthday.
She would get new bandages during the feast, though, so it wasn’t that bad.
Then, one day, Eri’s luck changed incredibly when her father had ‘recruited’ someone that was supposed to make them ‘stronger’. But Eri didn’t hear much beyond that recruitment. The rest… she saw it happen herself.
The first clue that something was wrong came when the lamps started to go haywire and electricity seemed to go away from the building. Something just felt wrong and yet right.
She shifted out of bed as she heard people running outside her room. The girl walked up to the door, noticing that it had unlocked since the electric lock had been turned off.
Slowly, she pulled the handle and carefully got it open. Leaning out, she heard people screaming and fighting something around the corner. Red eyes stared inquisitively as she waited for that to happen.
She had seen many frightening things and the sight of one of the henchmen being hurled onto one of the walls and then being devoured by monstrous dark-violet shadow dogs.
Eri’s eyes were wide open, but she wasn’t shivering. Not at all. Even as the mutts turned to her and slowly approached, she held her ground. It wasn’t bravery- no, it was… readiness to accept the end.
Is it wrong that I wouldn’t mind it?
Yet, the fleeting thought wasn’t realized. Not when the feral and monstrous creatures just stopped and sniffed at her, a soft whining came from both before they turned around and walked away.
Eri blinked at the reaction, frowning and then lifting her ragged dress upward to give it a sniff.
I don’t smell too bad. R-Right?
The strange encounter doubled her curiosity as the tiny girl paced quietly through the familiar halls which she had been carried around so many times. Yet, there was a sense of quiet that both worried and pleased her.
She could tell anyone working for her father was either dead or not around in this area, so she could stroll there freely. But as she reached the end of the hall and actually arrived to see the source of that situation, Eri’s pretty eyes went wide again.
This time, the cause of her reaction was… the sight of her father, broken and mangled on the heavily damaged floor. Various workers of his hesitating to go and help him as the one that harmed him didn’t look hurt at all.
“NYEH-EH-EH! Is this all you got, Overhaul? You tried to play me like a fool, thinking I was some foolish trickster- but I am truly the Greatest! I AM SKELETOR, AND I HAVE POWER!!”
The strange-talking skull-headed man didn’t appear threatening at first glance, but since he had wrecked her father, Eri was willing to think he was indeed a powerful being. And as he was done cackling and gloating over Overhaul, Skeletor turned to the rest of the goons.
“Who’s next? And who shall be the first that shall become my minion? Only one will be worthy of being my henchman!”
There was hesitation. Maybe it was fear, or maybe it was defiance.
Yet, one thing the group had taken into account was that someone that was rather lacking either at the moment.
“Me too?”
For a moment, Eri thought her voice had been far too quiet for the skull-headed man to hear her but-
“Who said that? Who just asked!” He screeched as he turned to see her and… ‘frown’? “A child? What is a little one doing here? Hmmm, confusing!”
He snapped his fingers, and Eri was baffled as she was suddenly floating and being taken closer to where Skeletor was. Once she was close enough, the muscular entity hummed thoughtfully.
“Your name, child. I sense you have great affinity for darkness.”
“E-Eri.”
“Eri? Hmm, how could it be that a human so tiny and young could bear this much pain…” Tensing up, Eri had little chance to react as Skeletor’s hand was upon her head, just near her horn and she felt as if someone was sinking in her mind. “I see… OH, I see! NYEH-EH-EH! This is what I was talking about! A child with potential to be a great villain… in you!”
A shudder came at this.
“W-What?”
“Tell me, child. If I was to claim you as my apprentice and as my henchgirl, would you accept?”
“Y-Yes!”
“Why?” He pressed her. “After all, what drives you to ask for this? Greed, ambitions?”
“I-I don’t want to be hurt again.”
“And?” He taunted her, clearly aware of what she wanted out of this.
“I don’t want- I don’t want this to happen again! Not to me, not to others!”
She was sobbing at this point, but the skull-headed fiend chuckled.
“Ah yes, the broken innocence of this child. So… refreshing. But uncalled for,” He growled as he glared at Overhaul. “Yet, I suppose her ‘father’ can give her one last gift.”
Eri was confused by what he meant, but then Skeletor waved his staff and a sliver of dark-violet particles left Overhaul’s groaning body and soon shifted near to her, softly wrapping around her arms and legs.
“Tell me, child. Do you know why I call myself the greatest?”
She slowly shook her head, feeling odd around her limbs but not in a bad way. The strange grin on Skeletor’s skull face was dignified as the particles dispersed and the child could see her bandages coming off and… revealing no scars or injuries.
Her eyes widened and she gave a quizzical look at the amused villain.
“That’s why! NYE-EH-EH-EH!”
Skeletor ultimately didn’t kill her father, but had him and his associates restrained so that the ‘guards’ could take care of them. In Skeletor’s words, they got to suffer under the ‘light of justice’ rather than ‘escape through death’.
And after that, Eri’s life completely changed. For the best possible ever!
—-----d-d-d-d—--
After that day, Eri kept on dreaming it as if it was a fantasy. That she had never been taken in by Skeletor and that it was all a silly delusion of hers.
But each day would see her open her red eyes at the same dark and gloomy ceiling of her room, the darkness comforting just as much as the warm big bed she now owned.
Her room was massive, and yet filled with plushies of all sizes and a large wardrobe with several outfits. Some pretty, some practicals. Yet, today was going to be a ‘at-home’ day as Skeletor would call it.
Many villains would always be on the loose, plotting to hurt people left and right, but Skeletor had taught her that a good villain ‘picked their plotting with a healthy amount of rest and proper recovery’. Plus, if she was meant to be a good villain, it would be silly for her to raise the attention she got from any heroes or the police.
So, it made sense that they would take a few breaks between each crime. It did help that her ‘master’ was unneeding of food and money, limiting that to Eri as she was mortal and he was a ‘lich’.
From her studies in Alchemy and Necromancy, a Lich was a powerful magician that mastered the dark arts and learned of a way to become powerful by absorbing others’ lifeforce.
Skeletor obtained power beyond comprehension which made the need to absorb souls mostly unnecessary. Yet, Eri had a good example of that power through her own body.
At first, she thought that Skeletor’s mentioning of her father’s last gift was actually using some of his lifeforce to heal her, but, in truth, it was more than just that. In fact, the gift was literally a fraction of the Overhaul quirk.
She couldn’t exactly use it the same way her ‘father’ could, but the extent of it allowed Eri to disassemble locks, break small barriers and even hurt normal humans if given the chance.
It still required her to touch her target, which, as a child, could be ‘situationally complex’. In simple terms, she could trick someone to pick her up and use it, but if they knew she was a threat then her limited frame would be her undoing.
So, she was not supposed to rely on her Quirk for most businesses. And that’s why she planned to spend hours before lunch to actually expand her capacity to use magic. Yes, Eri could use magic!
It had been such an exciting experience to learn the first steps from her ‘boss’, but Skeletor patiently showed her some ways to bypass grueling steps that would only make her too ‘stiff and orderly-driven’.
Magic was neither order or chaos- it was wild. Only the holder should be able to brand it, yet others tended to claim that responsibility in an effort to ‘be morally superior’.
Skeletor sounded quite bitter about it, but he never meant any harm to her. After all, Eri had lived long enough with a vicious man to know when the anger was aimed at her or at others and her new leader hardly looked upset at her. Disappointed mostly, and at times just ‘irked’ about some cheek she showed him.
She was still a child, that’s what he kept on repeating. And while that was supposed to be an insult, Eri felt glad that he was being ‘understanding’ of her current weakness. It wasn’t her fault she was tiny and fragile, but her magic was powerful. She had the potential, and she was definitely going to be the most powerful ‘witch’ in the entire world.
It was just a matter of patience, dedication and ambition. Skeletor had told her that there was a difference between ‘having an ambition’ and ‘being ambitious’.
The former was reasonable for all living beings- to have a purpose to keep on improving themselves. The latter was a step taken by those that wanted more than just survival and to be happy- they wanted to either change the world, or rule it.
Eri was more of the former but-
“You will eventually find a reason to go beyond that. You’re powerful, Eri. You should be ready to be more than your tiny shoes can offer.”
That comment, at the moment, meant nothing. Eri had no reason to be ‘better’ beyond her own selfish happiness. Sure, she may help those that can then return something to her as Skeletor taught her, but the girl had no reason to be craving for more.
Thus, she merely revisited her basic spells on the humongous library in ‘Skeletor Castle’, waiting for her master’s return as he was off for ‘fishing for friends’.

Eri is a dutiful student and apprentice and henchgirl, but Skeletor needs a proper ‘grunt’ to do his dirty deeds. But who would fit that bill…?

Lol, the blood girl. Feels like easiest choice, a vampire with her witch or vice versa.
