This! This felt much better than just cursing that little thing!
As much as Maleficent had been sure cursing the brat born from Stefan would have been enough to hurt him, she had to admit that after a quick look into his daily life had been mostly normal before she cursed him properly.
Truth be told, she thought that, as a mere human, he would have been showing true love to those he saw as fellow humans. So, Maleficent was surprised when she realized he seemed to care only for himself and the power he accumulated through trickery.
Hurting him where it really hurt was her core goal, so she shifted her plan to fit with that. And her newest minion, John, and his plan were what she worked with. John’s advice was sound- the local nobles hated Stefan merely for his bloodline lacking any royalty before being put there by the previous dying ruler.
The queen was also upset at him for avoiding her. It was clear that the bitter hatred that Stefan held towards her put any true emotional effort on the side, and it also showed how foolish he was when he even refused to care for his queen as the young Queen started to suffer a troubled sickness.
Part of her wanted to save the fool, to show her how her king was nothing and that Maleficent was righteous. But that thought perished when the woman showed no sign of interest for her missing daughter.
Hence why the Dark Fairy struck with the three mini-plans conjured by her minion.
The first step was easy to produce. Stefan was besieged by the aristocracy demanding a new heir to be produced, or for him to give up some of the central power he held as a king to the nobles as appeasement. The death of Aurora also saw the king threaten the three horrified fairies as they were clearly believing this was the case.
The realm was thus hurled in a period of sorrow for the loss of the young princess and…
Next up was the ‘rumors’ of Stefan preferring boys to girls. The fact his cupbearer was spotted leaving private ‘meetings’ with the king while having a limp and looking a mixture of pleased and displeased further fueled that sort of conversation.
It didn’t help that Stefan was also caught in another rumor where he tried to seduce some maids but he failed to get his cock to stand up for duty. The ridicule kept on flocking and it added to the next injury as this one actually hurt him in the belly.
The castle had a large surplus of grain and bread. For it to be mostly wrecked by mold, bugs, and other troublesome details strained the life in court as the king fell ill with deep pains of the bowel that led him to visit the latrines frequently.
Servants further spread the news that the man was just cursed… while reports of the perfect harvest season struck the nobles off-guard, especially when a ‘Harvest Spirit’ blessed them in exchange of protecting these ‘fruits of the land and the labor’.
When tax-collectors and grain collectors were dispatched, they were met with ferocious people, and since most of the army relied on the very people that were opposing for excessive moves to grab the surplus of grain, Stefan found himself in the worst spot possible.
At this point, things had been worsening for four long years. Maleficent would peek into the circumstance from time to time, and realize that this was the most convincing way to handle that pathetic whelp.
All was well in her world, until things took a peculiar turn in her own domain.
First, the loyal servant, John, was granted a wish and-
“Could you please shift the curse away from Rory? I really don’t want this to be forgotten and then cause a problem.”
A reasonable request and the keywords were ‘shift the curse away’ rather than outright remove it. The former was possible, the latter… Maleficent was not actually sure it was feasible.
The curse against Aurora had been a masterwork she doubted she could hope to ever replicate. So powerful, so intense, and yet so situational that it made any chance of breaking it, even from the caster’s perspective, quite impossible.
Maleficent thus gave the curse a new target. A young girl close to the prim and proper age to be killed by such a spell, but one so vain and cruel and yet so beautiful that she gained the king’s attention to become his wife once the queen perished by her disease.
Once again, Maleficent was sure of having hit hard on the bastard while also removing another hindrance. John never asked where it went, merely accepting that she had disposed of it.
Yet, this wish brought her some relief to a certain extent. And the source of it stemmed from the usual circumstance of a daily basis where a certain golden-haired child would happily walk up to her throne as she was reading some books, ask nicely if she could read with her and then fall asleep a few minutes later.
The ‘thing’ now had a name, Aurora, and it was weird how easily she wormed a path into Maleficent’s heart through the thick, cold, and quite unforgiving shell that kept it away from more pain.
She was radiant, always smiling and never once showing sadness. She either kept by her father’s side, played with Diaval in his raven form, and then would pester her for some book-reading.
Truth be told, Maleficent started to read a bit more ever since the child wanted her to read her some of the things in the library, and she had to say that she never thought some silly stories could bear so many interesting lessons.
The child was not without sins, but that was something anyone could say about all children. Maleficent remembered the times she was a young little girl with two wonderful wings.
Aurora would never have her own, and yet Maleficent knew that she had her own ‘pair of wings’ in the form of those she cared for. Her family. Diaval was the silly broody uncle, John was her loving father, and Maleficent was…
What was Maleficent to Aurora?
The question excluded any negative connotation. The child adored Maleficent, but it was so difficult to truly explain what the child felt towards her. Was it admiration and reverence? Yes, but it wasn’t just that. Interest and wonder? Also, it wasn’t just right there and…
Can Maleficent be seen as her mother?
Aurora would accept it, like any orphan would. To Maleficent, it made sense that she, a dark fairy, would be the best motherly solution to a child that lacked any other female role model to relate to.
Sure, John appeared as the more ‘motherly/wife-like’ in that equation, but could Maleficent be Aurora’s mother? After all, thinking of herself as her aunt felt wrong, and the child would be rejecting that notion on the spot as Maleficent had a greater influence than Diaval.
Curiosity killed the cat, but the truth brings it back to life. Or something like that.
As she carefully slipped Aurora out of her lap and onto her seat for a moment, Maleficent knew she had a single individual to ask. She teleported to where John was, forgetting that he was currently using the baths and she was granted an answer to a different question.
A big answer to that.
“Oh, so phalli are meant to be bigger than Stefan’s-”
The panicked screech and the towel hurled at her face were quite rude, but she agreed she ogled on her servant’s modesty a bit too long.
It was embarrassing, but the surprise of knowing that Stefan had been less than any other men could be sure gave her heart some joy. She was back with Aurora shortly after, as if nothing had happened and yet she pondered on what was to be done next.
Then an idea popped within the Dark Fairy’s mind, a giddy smile manifesting as she realized she never had a holiday in a while. And that there was a place she heard about that could make for a lovely place to bring Aurora at… and lure her silly human minion to tell her more things in a more ‘comfortable’ environment.
Maybe she had an interest to see how much of a ‘father’ John could be with a ‘mother’ like her.
