In classic Star Trek, there is a tradition of giving characters uniforms with bold colors, where the colors signify the character's background and function aboard a ship or station. For example, in Star Trek The Next Generation, Red is for command officers, Blue is for science and medical officers, and Yellow is for Engineering and Security. And in The Orville, a show inspired by Star Trek, they just call the Star Trek Federation The Union and shuffle the colors around a bit. That is what we are going for here.
Now I have yet to decide what am I going to call the game's Federation analog. I want to go for a Consortium of Guilds. Where guilds are representative bodies for a specific craft or trade in the galaxy. What is already decided is that the first protagonist is going to be a human woman.
The Choices Are
The Scholar's Guild - Researchers of philosophical, biological, social, and cultural aspects of galactic life.
The Technician's Guild - Engineers from multiple fields, they are responsible for the development and maintenance of galactic technology and infrastructure.
The Voyager's Guild - Personnel responsible for operations of ships and space stations, from communications to security Operations to navigation and piloting.
In video game terms you can think of this as your character's Base Class as well as the background options in games like Baldur's Gate 3 or Mass Effect. Just a little extra flavor for the character.
Choose as you may, you can also give me suggestions of what type of characters you would like to play in this sci-fi setting. With the game being this early in development, a lot might change about these guilds. Knowing a bit more about what you guys think is cool will help me shape my presentation of the setting.
