Adventure Level Adjustment Chart
🕑 Added 2021-07-01 08:32:08 +0000 UTCI needed this for my own purposes, so I thought I'd make it all pretty and share it.
Basically, this will help you decide what level of an adventure to throw at a party that has too many or too few characters.
For example, if you have six players with an average party level of 4, they can reasonably play in a 7th, 8th, or 9th-level adventure. Likewise, if you have a 4th-level adventure you want to run, you could run the adventure for six 2nd-level characters, five 3rd-level characters, three or four 4th-level characters, or two 9th-level characters.
The chart uses the Adventuring Day XP as a basis. Keep in mind that most of D&D is subjective, so what may seem easy for one group might be hard for another. Either way, this should act as a good guideline for you all.
Seven or more characters? Honestly, the balance of the game starts to break down pretty heavily at that point, and there becomes a law of diminishing returns. My recommendation is to never run games for more than 6 people. Otherwise, you get stuck in a weird area where adventures are either too easy or way too hard, and not a lot of middle ground.

Thank you for this! I really needed it for my tiny party.
This is amazing! I may or may not be using this for a while
Are the headers reversed?
It is indeed. A lot of friends wanted to play with me the scarred lands campaign

That's awesome. Do you have a formula for this sheet? My group is so incredibly big! I've 8 chars to manage...

Timely on your posting of this. I'm planning the start to our group's next campaign and I was going to use Shrine of the Emperor of Bones at 5th level. As the group has 7 players, I was thinking of having them start at 3rd level until I saw the amount of HP on the zombie dragon and I felt that 4th would allow them a better chance of surviving that encounter. I'm going to have to think about this some more.
