BTS Pics: 'Cities'
🕑 Added 2024-02-06 17:17:53 +0000 UTCHello lovely Patrons!
We wrapped on the next episode of Philosophy Tube yesterday! It's about urban design, and my working title is Cities (that won't be the actual title though). I've actually done three days of filming in London and Newcastle, and here are some behind the scenes pics from the London shoot!
We're going to be talking about both rural and urban spaces, so I wanted a country girl look haha
We'll be discussing some common myths about the countryside, as a warmup to get to grips with some of the concepts we'll need later
By the way, that's the same hat I wore when I played Jess in Sky/Netflix's Django!
I also deliberately designed this look to be wholesome - I got some feedback last year that people find it tough to share the videos with other people if the outfits are too risqué haha
We'll also be talking about gentrification in some detail - one of my sources was this book by David Banks
Last time I highlighted the physical books I had read as research a lot more and people really liked it, so I'll be doing that again! This one by Steven Conn informed a lot of the first section of the video
Brian Conway and Nicki Buglewicz returned to do the styling and makeup, and did an amazing job as usual!
This video has a bit of a twist: partway through we change gears and learn about some quite different philosophy, and that required a very different look!
I called this look 'Phantom of the Phantasm' - Phantasm is a technical philosophy term we'll be learning
You can really see the amazing work Nicki did here: she's the best! Your pledges go towards making sure all the crew are properly paid, so thank you! I like to make sure your pledges are on the screen!
I'll briefly be referencing Judith Butler's new book Who's Afraid of Gender: both it and phantasms are going to tie into the next episode in a much bigger way!
The prism is a visual metaphor lol: you'll get it when you watch the video
All in all this was quite a challenging shoot actually. The venue wasn't properly soundproofed, despite being advertised as a filming space, and we lost a lot of time to waiting for background noise to stop. But we got everything we needed in the end, thanks to the hard work of the crew, and we had fun - so much fun in fact that for the first time in a while there's going to be a separate blooper reel along with the episode! I'll put it up for Patrons and Nebula subscribers once the video is out.
I'm aiming to have this one out on YouTube on the 23rd. $15+ Patrons and Nebula subscribers will be able to see it as soon as it's ready!

I really loved this video. Thank you!

I assume Abigail got an advanced reader's copy - assuming that's the actual copy she has in the video and not a mock-up, it looks too complete to be anything from earlier in the proofing process. If I were Judith Butler's publisher, Philosophy Tube is exactly the kind of thing I'd be willing to send out an ARC for to get a few mentions...

How did she read Judith Butlers: "Who's Afraid of Gender?"? I didn't think it was out until March?

just watched it on Nebula. terrific video! I will share it far and wide when the YT VoD drops. I'm sure someone else has already mentioned this, but there's a word for "verbal diarrhea" - logorrhea. it's one of my favorite words that I learned as a child.

Great photos and looks. Also looking forward to the episode drop. Still don't see any K-pop boy band pics....
