The issue of closing Crucial is compounded by the fact that it had become the source for lower cost reliable products that put a price ceiling on the more costly competitors. It feels like it would be similar to Honda stopping production of Honda automobiles and instead concentrating on Acura models. It could also be that Micron was sending their less capable chips to Crucial and now have no need for that outlet.

They aren't shifting any cost to you, there removing uneeded cost and giving you more control. Valve doesn't get some special deal on ram man - they are getting gouged just like you.

dont love the idea of just shifting the cost to the consumer. ala the barebones

I felt the micron thing was slightly overblown. Like you said buying direct from Samsung or SK Hynix as a consumer is almost under heard of. You’ll still be able to get micron chips on your gskill/corsair memory.
