She stood up and stumbled into the bathroom, checking her phone as she grabbed medicine from the cabinet for her headache. "I thought Ethan was gonna spend the night," she muttered, looking through her texts before deciding to call him. A ringtone sang from the other room, where she found his phone in her purse, still on the table where she dropped it last night. "Huh," she said, picking up Ethan's phone and declining the call, "Guess he'll come get it when he wakes up."
She undressed, tossing her clothes into the washing machine before hopping in the shower, trying to wash the hangover away. The hot water made her feel better, the gears in her mind starting to turn. Memories started to return to her, the previous night slowly returning to her. She remembered meeting Ethan at the club, then drinking a bit too much, followed by... something. She tried to focus on the memory, willing it to fully form. It came to her in crystal clarity, waking her up as adrenaline shot through her veins. She leapt out of the shower, not even turning it off as she dashed for the washing machine. "Ethan! Can you hear me!" She shouted as she dug through her soggy clothes until she pulled her pair of panties from the drum.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck!" She exasperated as she put the underwear on the table, fumbling for her spellbook. "Retro!" She chanted in Latin, trying to cast the reversal spell, "Retro! Retro! Retro!" But the wet cloth lay on the table, still, unmoving. She paced around, terrified that Ethan was now permanently a pair of panties, when another idea came to her. She flipped through a few more pages until she came across a spell to let her talk to objects. Putting her hand over Ethan and chanting, "Loquere ad me."
"Zo-Zoey?" The panties said into her mind, his voice weak. "Ethan! Thank God!" She responded, picking up the lingerie, "Do you remember what happened?" "Yeah, we both were shitfaced and thought it'd be funny if you turned me into your panties," Ethan said, "Why isn't the reversal spell working like it normally does?" A twinge of panic snuck into his voice, the gravity of the situation sinking in like the detergent. Zoey flipped back through to the reversal spell, reading each caveat aloud until she reached the bottom one. "Phosphorus will absorb the magic and make reversing impossible," she read and grabbed the detergent, and read through the ingredients before her shoulders fell. "What?! What is it?!" Ethan cried out. "It has sodium tripolyphosphate... phosphate," she sobbed, defeated, "I-I can't turn you back, Ethan."
Ethan didn't respond for at least 30 seconds before he whispered, "Wear me." "Wh-what?" Zoey said through tears. "Wear me, Zoey. I don't want to be left to rot in a drawer," Ethan told her. She rubbed her eyes, "I can do that for you." She tossed him back into the washer so he could finish being cleaned and returned to her still-running shower to wash off the suds. She moved him to the dryer, pacing still naked as she waited for her boyfriend-turned-clothes to dry. She almost jumped when the dryer buzzed, and she pulled Ethan from the machine, confirming that he wanted this before pulling him up her legs, something she would have to get used to doing for the rest of her life.
