Chapter 1: Deceived by a little girl
🕑 Added 2025-04-12 03:56:08 +0000 UTCTarget confirmed: the bread in the little girl’s hand.
Enemy unit: a girl who looks very weak.
Our combat power: Although they are about the same age, he is a male, and it is a sneak attack.
After a brief assessment of the difference in combat power between the enemy and him, the boy in the bush jumped out like a cheetah.
And then –
he was defeated, that’s all.
His hand was grabbed, and his whole body was pressed under the little girl just now. He was in disbelief.
Unsportsmanlike! The little girl actually used her appearance to deceive the innocent.
Then, the thought of “I’m going to die” came to his mind.
Although he had prepared for death a long time ago, he really didn’t expect to be defeated by a nine-year-old child.
In this chaotic era, food is the most precious while human life is the least precious.
While waiting for the arrival of death, he had nothing to miss about this world. Some people went to hell because of hunger, but he had to live in hell. From scavenging to stealing, if he hadn’t lacked the courage to commit suicide, he would have probably ended his life long ago.
He had expected a day of failure, and he was ready to die.
Closing his eyes, he looked back at his second life, which he had no regrets about. He felt relieved, but the death he imagined had not come, and the child on top of him had no intention of letting him go.
”What’s your name?”
”Hey, kid, kill me before I have the strength to do it, or you will die.” He showed a cruel smile. Although he was just a thief who was fired on the third day because of scavenging on the battlefield, he was also a person who had been to the battlefield!
Although he was beaten stupid, he still had to say the harsh words!
”Calling me a kid, you are not much older than me, right?” As if dissatisfied with his attitude, the girl kept sitting and put her feet on the boy.
For a moment, he forgot that he was also a kid.
”I don’t have a name.”
He was not given a name, and he didn’t want to make one up temporarily. After all, there are so many war orphans, and it is normal for them to have no name.
”Eh? No name?” The girl thought for a moment, and she moved her feet away from the boy, but she remained sitting.
”War orphan… I’m so sorry!” The girl’s sudden apology made him a little confused.
”Then I’ll help you think of one, how about it?” The girl seemed to be particularly interested in this kind of thing, but this kind of curiosity is what a nine-year-old child should have.
But, this is not a question that should be discussed now, right?
”Okay.”
Looking at the girl’s emerald eyes full of seriousness, he turned his head away indifferently. He just remembered that he hadn’t chatted with others for a long time.
”Then no name, no name? Nameless person—” The girl tapped her lips and thought for a moment, and suddenly smiled slyly: “I thought of it, how about calling It Sartish Menachel?”
”Sartish Menachel?” The boy looked at the girl’s smile, although he had a bad premonition, he didn’t care, he just closed his eyes: “Whatever.”
He just wanted to end the current situation quickly.
”Eh? No, I just…” The girl who originally wanted to tease him didn’t know how to answer. How should I put it? The name she gave him is very interesting. But she just gave it to fight back against the other party’s indifferent attitude.
”What’s wrong?”
Seeing the other party’s frivolous attitude again, she couldn’t help but puff up her face: “Then you are not allowed to change your name in the future!”
The boy who had just been named Sartish Menachel raised his head with difficulty and looked at the girl’s face. He couldn’t understand why the other party was so entangled in the name.
”Nice to meet you, my name is Artoria.” The girl smiled at him.
”Then can you kill me?”
”Why should I kill you?” Artoria showed a puzzled expression on this, and she seemed to hate the word kill very much.
It was as beautiful as the permafrost crystals blooming in the snow.
Such words emerged in his mind, but people with such thoughts would not survive in troubled times.
”The reason is simple, because I stole your food.”
Although I stole it, I didn’t steal it completely.
”It’s true that you should be punished, but I won’t kill you.”
He couldn’t understand the logic of the girl named Artoria’s behavior.
The breeze floated across his face, bringing the unique fragrance of grass and girls, which made his somewhat turbid brain clear.
It was really stupid to persuade others to kill him.
But in the darkness, white is not allowed to exist. Will this white flower be dyed black or swallowed by black?
Suddenly he was a little curious.
”Only one?”
Artoria took out the bread she had taken back from Menachel and asked in surprise.
”If I take too much, I can’t finish it, and I can’t save it.”
Menachel didn’t beautify himself for this. He just said his true intention. He didn’t want to pay attention to this strange woman who neither killed him nor let him go. He immediately looked away when facing Artoria’s gaze.
But soon he realized that something was wrong and immediately added: “I’m just telling the truth.”
”Here you go.”
Artoria handed the bread to the boy’s mouth.
”What?”
Menachel looked at the bread in front of him and couldn’t believe it.
”Hunger is the enemy of man. Stealing for hunger is shameful, but it is not a capital crime.” Artoria said so to herself. She used Menachel’s back as a cushion and propped up her face with one hand.
From the side of the girl’s face, Artoria’s eyes were shining. She was looking forward to the future.
For a moment, Menachel forgot to bite the bread.
”The country is being invaded, so people are suffering.” Artoria said in a serious tone: “So I want to change this country.”
”I want refugees to stop wandering around, I want lords to stop fighting each other, and I want Britain to become strong.” The corners of her mouth unconsciously curled up, revealing a faint smile. It’s so beautiful…
It’s a beauty that has nothing to do with men and women, and it’s also a dreamy beauty that Menachel doesn’t have. It's the pure goodness that has not been polluted.
But he soon woke up from that smile, and Menachel lowered his head reluctantly: “But this has nothing to do with you saving me, why did you save me?”
”Just like I want to save this country, do I need a reason to save people?”
It is because he witnessed such a brilliant life that he felt that his survival was meaningless. He couldn’t help but yearn for the vague future described by the nine-year-old girl.
It is estimated that the scene he saw on that day, the individual named Menachel will never forget it in his life?
The endless grassland around him, intertwined with the clear sky, feeling the gentle sunlight, and several large green caterpillars that can be seen everywhere are wriggling their one-meter-long attractive bodies to find food.
But even the vast grassland is just a background, and everything is eclipsed by the smile of the girl named Artoria.
He took a bite of the bread hanging in his mouth, chewed it twice and swallowed it whole, while Artoria was still immersed in her own dream.
It’s so immature, but a girl who fantasizes like this will be forced to become mature by war and hunger like him.
”Then please let me see the future you describe.”
”I will.” Artoria was still shy because of the bunch of inexplicable words she said in high spirits, but when she heard the request of the boy under her, she smiled and nodded.
”For this, I will do my best to help you.”
”Huh?”
Looking at the girl’s stunned expression, Menachel felt that he had finally turned the tables. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the rare good time.
A life without goals and hope is impossible to last long, Menachel thought so, but he was lucky because on the same day, he got both of them in his life.
”Just consider it as a way to repay you for treating me to this piece of bread.”
