There are many ways to make it work. Being caught by someone who knows how to tie knots is an effective method ! Not sure it's still called selfbondage though...

Tie your feet up, then get the rope ready around your hands and use your feet to pull the knot using your hands to hold the other end. Then the rope to tie the two ties together is a bit more tricky but your hands are still open so patience is key looping the rope around both, then just position the knot correctly and pull your hands and feet apart to tighten it. That's how you do this one at least.
