Yo, I was just rereading and discovered that Calcery had a fight with Mel a little before page 1 timeline-wise. And calcery said “as attentive as they are, I’m not sure Mel is actually listening”. (Pg 18) So, unsurprisingly because we know Jay, this has been gradually set up from the beginning

Ooh, seeing more of Mel’s character flaws come through here. The way they put that comes off as at least absentminded or inconsiderate, if not passive aggressive. I like it as a writing choice though, helps to color their character and talita’s relationship with them. Would be boring if they were just as caring and parental as Doug or were a completely disconnected boss
