Just because Ethan's blood has always looked like normal blood under a microscope, doesn't mean it DOESN'T have information in its DNA that someone with advanced equipment/knowledge could find.

Both are not equally preventable. Railing and non-slip things can lower the chance of shower slippage to lower than germ death with good hygiene.

But if the blood always looked the same... What did the troll say he exactly did? If he said doing some easy science on the blood he found here and there... That would rule it out, wouldn't it?
