🕑 Added 2022-06-20 03:36:01 +0000 UTCThe beta version of my comprehensive revision to encounter-building in 5e, titled Challenge Ratings 2.0: A Simple System for Building Balanced 5E Encounters, is now available for playtesting!
If you've ever been frustrated or confused by 5e's encounter-building system or challenge ratings—this short, two-page document is the system for you.
In addition to basic encounter-building and difficulty calibration, Challenge Ratings 2.0 covers:
- Multiclassing and subclass features
- Magic weapons, potions & scrolls
- High-CR bosses, low-CR minions, and variable encounter sizes
- Strategy, tactics & battlefield advantages
- Balancing the adventuring day for martial and caster PCs
You can find the playtest document here.
Feedback and commentary are welcome! Please submit all playtest feedback through this brief, five-question Google form, and feel free to send me questions directly via Discord or through Patreon's messaging system.
The accompanying research paper detailing my findings and analysis will be published on my Substack later this week, which you can find here.
Cheers, and thank you for your support as always,
Dragna
PS: To those who have been wondering whether I've disappeared over the past several weeks—this is the monster project that's been devouring all of my free time. Thank you dearly for your patience, and I hope this system makes up for any other delays :)

Hey! Sorry, not sure what you mean. Could you clarify the issue you're facing? Glad to take a look at it.

I was looking at this, when I put in a CR1 creature, it comes as CR 1/8... The numbers associated are with the 1/8 too.
