Hey Patrons!
This month's Patron show will be going live soon but in the meantime I wanted to share a sneak peek at one of the highlights of our tape archive thus far.
In among the HDCAM tapes I managed to find two which contained 1080p recordings of the broadcast feed for probably the most famous E3 press conference of all time. This not only means that for the first time EVER we have 1080p recordings of some of the best memes of all time, but also several trailers that were previously never seen at that resolution. Games like Final Fantasy 13 and Metal Gear Solid 4. You can watch these on the channel right now.
So before we release the full press conference online I wanted to share it with you - the people who made this whole affair possible. So sit back, grab some popcorn, and enjoy E3's like the good old days. Except now with way better resolution!
PS: there are 2 minutes of footage in the middle that are missing (during a Tiger Woods tech demo) - presumable when they were swapping tapes. A small price to pay I'd say but we're keeping are eyes out for that footage in the tapes.
PPS: Yes it took them 2 minutes to swap to the correct camera at the start of the actual livestream too, hah.
Enjoy the show!
Danny

Going back and watching both the Microsoft 2009 conference and this, it's WILD just how far the major companies have come in turning these briefings into entertaining shows. This one in particular is *painful* to watch as both a fan and consumer. Business wise at the time might've went over well, but WOW is this a tough one to sit through; First 25 minutes of talking, it takes 40 minutes to get to the first "demo" and that being 10 minute ode to Gran Turismo when GT 5 wasn't even a *game* yet. I love Uncharted and Resistance, but when those are your only bright spots with extremely odd ping-ponging back and forth between Kaz and Harrison (not to mention the many infamous meme moments), the modern day streams I grumble or am 'meh' on are top tier compared to how things were. I LOVE stuff like this - particularly when it comes to E3 conferences/presentations specifically. And while both that Xbox 2009 and the Sony 2006 E3 press conferences may be hard to sit through, long live the 2010 Konami conference for being the most bizarre thing I've ever seen... And that's factoring in the "shows" Devolver Digital puts on now-a-days. ...if you couldn't tell I'm a massive nerd for these kinds of things. Thanks Danny for making a patreon post on this so I could talk into the ether and put my nerdiness on it into the universe!

It is fascinating to watch again. I remember watching this at the time. It was such a low point for Sony, especially when you consider the successful 12 years beforehand with PS1/2 and now the subsequent 17 years with PS3/4/5. Such a blimp in Playstations history. It's strange to think that most people under 25 probably hasn't seen this before, or may not even know about how famous this conference is.

Wow, don't remember it looking like that in 2006! π 54:42 "So here's this giant enemy crab."

Man, that looks great.

Goodness. Pristine. Skip to 46:40 for one of the best moments.
