The comments in here picking apart her “happiness” as being “bitter” are wild to me. She has a point of view. Happiness without contrast is BORING. Like, onyx to opal. Come on. She’s telling us that life is difficult (for her, for us, cause being a human sucks and there’s no actual rulebook and NONE of us know how to do it) and that we have to choose our own happiness. The lyrics are smart and funny and, as a fellow 1980s girlie, just so damn resonant for how I actually feel (as a happy person who is in love but is also like…human).
