"Let's go back to the tapirs, these things creep me out."
"You're such a stick, Monica," Anthony answered, "Look at how much fun these guys are having."
"Uh-huh, and you're so low-brow," Monica retorted, barely glancing up from her phone. "They're, like, throwing their poop, or something."
Anthony rolled his eyes, pointing into the exhibit. "Maybe if you weren't texting all day, you'd see that it's just a ball. They're playing with each other."
"Whatever." Monica shoved her pierced nose deeper into the screen, lips pinched into a perpetually unimpressed scowl. Her boyfriend was big on animals. She was...less so. What was there to like? Messy, smelly, always getting hair on your expensive designer clothes... Still, it was his birthday; she supposed she could humor him for a few minutes. Monica stuffed her phone back into her purse with a hearty sigh.
"Oh! Look, look! One's coming this way!" Anthony looked like a kid at Christmas, leaning against the safety bar with a huge grin on his face while one of the larger orangutans approached. Loping along on its knuckles until it reached the bars of the enclosure, the ape opened its mouth wide, smiling at the pair.
"Ugh." Monica sneered back at the ape, sticking out her tongue. "Monkeys are so fucking creepy."
"They're apes. And she's showing us she wants to play, so be nice." Anthony informed her with a glare. "See? She wants to share with you." Sure enough, the orangutan was inching closer, hand outstretched toward Monica. Still grinning, it motioned crudely at her with an outstretched fist.
"This is so cool, I've never seen one up close before. Go on, take it," Anthony encouraged.
"Uh, ew." Monica took a step back. "Whatever it has, I don't want it."
"C'mon..." Anthony was not to be so easily deterred. He looked around, making sure none of the other zoo-goers were watching. "Go for it!" It took a couple shoves and a healthy dose of puppy dog eyes before he convinced Monica to shuffle three steps forward and reach out her hand. She stretched her lithe torso over the safety rail, shooting her boyfriend a look of pure venom while the ape touched its hairy, calloused fingers to her palm.
"Ohmygodohmygodohmygod, I touched it. It's touching me!" Monica squawked. A half-peeled, saliva drenched banana was eagerly pushed into her manicured hand. "EwewewEW!" She bounced from foot to foot, smacking Anthony's arm.
Monica was just about to bail when the beast gripped her tightly by the wrist, revealing a full set of teeth between its wrinkled lips. "Wha-!" She balked, dropping the disgusting fruit and pulling away. "Take your smelly paws off me, you dumb, dirty monkey!" But the ape wouldn't let up. Instead, it jerked Monica closer, holding her arm just long enough to snatch the gaudy yellow purse dangling from her shoulder and pull it through the bars.
"H-Hey!" Monica made a wild grab at the spaghetti strap, locked in a tug-o-war for her feminine essentials. "Give. It. Ba-OOF!" One last pull from the orangutan sent Monica reeling flat on her ass, broken strap in hand. She parted the veil of hair covering her face just in time to witness her purse flying through the bars, scattering her phone, make-up, and a few tampons across the grassy enclosure. "ARE YOU FUGGIN' KIDDING ME?" Monica howled, still sitting with her legs splayed wide. She clambered to her feet, wiping dirt off her butt and cursing all the while. Anthony, who had been stifling his laughter throughout the ordeal, quailed once she rounded on him. "YOU are going to find SOMEONE to get MY STUFF from that STUPID MONKEY. RIGHT. NOW."
"I don't th-"
"NOW." Monica sent him running with a stamp of her foot, indifferent to the scene she was making. Ignoring the stares around her, she glared at the ape rifling through her mascara. Grinning, it uncapped her lipstick and sniffed it. "Don't you dare," Monica warned, gripping the bars on either side of her face. The ape glanced at her, about to smear hot pink across its hairy lips, when a jarring little tone wafted up from the grass. Her cellphone was ringing. "No. NO." Monica pressed her body against the narrow spaces, trying desperately to reach in and retrieve her precious phone before the orangutan could get to it.
"Oo?" Too late. The beast tapped at her phone curiously, cradling it with a greasy palm.
"Motherf-" Breathing deep, Monica swallowed her rage; she would have to play nice if she wanted to win this game. She rolled her shoulders, tied up her hair, and smiled ever so sweetly. "Hey," she cooed, crouching down slowly. "Hey. C'mere, little guy." Monica forced a little more sugar into her tone. "I didn't mean what I said before, you cute little...thing. You just bring that phone to mama...That's it..." She held out the half peeled banana it had given her earlier and gave it a tempting wag. A greedy smirk corrupted her smile once the ape, encouraged by the soft lilt of her voice, started to come forward. "Come....come on, a little closer..."
"Ma'am," a finger tapped at her shoulder. "I'm going to need you to step away from the bars. The safety rail is there for a reason."
"Two seconds," Monica hissed. She shooed away the intruder with her free hand, watching the ape as it inched closer still...
"C'mon babe," Anthony piped up from somewhere behind her, "or they're going to kick us out. I'll buy you a new phone when we get home."
"I. Like. My. Phone." She wiggled the banana again, cooing softly. The orangutan looked at the phone, then the banana, scratching its head.
"Ma'am, I really must insist. It's not safe for you or th-"
"Aha!" Monica's glossy lips curled into a grin as soon as the ape plucked the fruit from her fingers. She lunged, using one hand to pull the ape by the forearm and the other to snatch the phone from its hand. Monica clutched the device in her hands, laughing triumphantly. "And that, boys, is how you outsm-MMPH!" Monica choked, both on her own words and the chunks of slimy banana being forced into her mouth. The orangutan, not at all pleased about being tricked, gripped her by the front of her tracksuit and held her against the bars while it mashed more banana down her throat. Both woman and ape screeched at each other, arms flailing wildly.
"Monica!"
"MMMBBBLLLRRRRMMM!!" Monica's cheeks were forcibly stuffed until banana and spittle oozed from her lips. She beat at the ape with her fists, using her phone like a hammer until the screen cracked. She wrenched her head sideways, breaking the orangutan's grip against the thick iron bars. "Mmn! Nng!" Monica swallowed the last remains of banana down her gullet, coughing and gasping for breath as Anthony and the handler ushered her a safe distance away.
"Ma'am, are you all right? Are you hurt?"
"Monica? Say something, baby. Are y-"
"I'm fine!" she sucked in deep lungfuls of air, nodding, "I'm fine." She wiped wet banana mush from her jaw and cheeks, wincing slightly. "Oh..." Her cracked phone lay behind the bars, well beyond her reach now. "I fucking hate...that fucking monkey..." she glowered.
"Actually," Tony supplied quietly, "It's an a-"
"WHATEVER. I don't FUCKING care!" Monica stamped her foot again, red in the face and utterly humiliated. "That thing almost ripped my fucking head off!" She blew errant strands of blonde out of her face. "Let's go, I want to fucking GO!"
"All right, all right, I'm sorry!" Anthony backpedaled, holding up his hands apologetically. "We're going..."
The caretaker escorted them to a nearby door marked EMPLOYEES ONLY– what looked to be a storage area for the food and equipment. Monica propped herself on a banana crate while she filled out an incident report and got checked for any signs of injury. Anthony muttered more than a few apologetic words to the zoo attendant and kept his arm around a pouting Monica, who, despite her foul mood, was all too pleased to be the center of attention. "Okay," Anthony said once they were finished. "Let's get outta here." He guided his girlfriend past the ape enclosure, putting himself between her and the bars.
Monica shot one last glare at the laughing orangutan, rubbing at her sore cheeks. "Tapirs," she mumbled sullenly. "I wanna see the tapirs again."
"All right."
"My tracksuit is totally ruined."
Anthony rubbed at one of the damp chunks of banana clinging to her chest. "I don't think banana stains. You could probably j-"
"Uh, that filthy animal touched it. It's ruined," Monica said matter-of-factly.
He dropped his hand. "...of course it is." Anthony knew better than to argue. More often than not, it was just easier to let Monica's tantrums run their course. He massaged the small of her back while she babbled away the excess adrenaline in her system.
"...and there's dirt all over my ass, I probably sat in some kid's chewed up gum, ugh, you'd think they'd do a better job cleaning this dump, I mean, like, sometimes I wonder why I let you drag me along to these places when I could be getting a pedicure, which reminds me I need to make another appointment but I can't call because I don't have my freakin' phone..."
"Lord, give me strength," Anthony muttered to himself. Monica had a great rack, but he wasn't sure it was worth this.
"What?" Monica's ponytail whipped around. "Uh, don't interrupt me. I'm so not in the mood." She paused. "Great. You made me lose my train of thought."
Anthony breathed a sigh of relief. Thank god.
"Oh," she held up a finger, "that's right. So when you buy my replacement, I'm going to want a pink case..."
Monica's mouth had mostly run out of steam by the time they reached the tapir pen. Instead, she resorted to loud sighs and wincing whenever she moved her arm. The monkey business from earlier had shaken her up, of course, though in retrospect Monica felt a little silly. She supposed she could have kept a cooler head, but it's hard to think straight when there's a mad beast screaming in your face. At least now she had Anthony right under her thumb for the rest of the day. In fact... "Tonyyyy," she called, pushing out her lips, "Get me a smoothie? It's hot, and I'm thirsty, and my jaw hurts."
"Yeah, from talking so much..."
"Excuse me?"
"Sure babe, what kind?"
Monica gave him a hard look. "Whatever, as long as it's good." She fanned herself with a map of the zoo while Anthony jogged over to the vendor, all too eager to give his bleeding ears a break. "Fuck this sun," she griped. Monica tugged on the zipper of her smudged tracksuit so that her girls could breathe a little. Soft, tanned cleavage squeezed up and out, fighting against her tube top to greet the fresh air. "Better," she sighed, watching the tapirs snuffling about their enclosure with their little snouts. They looked just as bored as she was. She scratched her head, wondering what her friends were posting online right now. If only she had a phone...
"Oh!" Monica snapped straight, arching her back. As soon as she had scratched her head, the itch zapped downward, tickling her tailbone. Again, she complied with the urge, but only after making sure no one was watching. Relief was momentary, lasting only a few seconds before the uncomfortable sensation returned with a vengeance. "Nnf, mm!" Her pink-tipped fingers swung around again, scratching furiously at her ass. Annoyed, Monica fiddled with the tag of her sweats, rolling down the waistband until it no longer pressed against her skin. She widened her stance, tugging at her thong. "What th-"
"Heeeerrre we go, one smoothie for the lady," Anthony called, walking up beside her.
"Eep!" Monica whirled around, hands clasped innocently behind her back. "Mm, thanks baby," she cooed, feeling the heat rise to her face. If Tony had seen anything, he was smart enough not to mention it. Still, her fingers continued to work surreptitiously behind her. "What flavor did you get me?" She took a gulp and gagged.
"Banana." His apologetic shrug did nothing to curb the awful flavor assaulting her taste buds. "It was all they had left."
"Gee, thanks. As if I haven't had enough already." Monica wrinkled her nose, but took another slurp anyway. In this heat, it was better than nothing.
"Did you get your fill of the tapirs?"
"Yeah." She pushed her cup back into Anthony's hands, absently scratching her bare belly while she consulted the map. "Let's check out the reptile room. I'm, like, sweating my ass off out here."
"No kidding." He handed back the smoothie which, despite its traumatic flavoring, his girlfriend began to suck on immediately. With his hand on her waist as they walked, the little extra jiggle in her hips was not lost on him. But just as before when he had caught her scratching her ass, Anthony was wise enough to make no mention of it.
Monica, too, was beginning to notice the increased sway in her gait. Her ample hips bounced back and forth with every step, subtly bulging out of her track pants. She peered down at her thighs, giving them a low-key pass with her gaudy fingernails; she tried not to think about how satisfying it felt to purge that incessant itch...
"You sure you want to go in here?" Anthony stopped at the entrance to the reptile house, watching her pointedly.
"Uh, yeah," Monica scoffed. "This tube top is, like, brand new and I'm not about to get it all greasy and sweaty. I've ruined enough clothes today as it is." She yanked open the door. "Why wouldn't I want...to..."
Her words died away as all things long and slithery eyed her from glass exhibits. Reptilian tongues snapped out in the wake of her lilac perfume. "Come on, they're not going to bite," Anthony chuckled, pulling his quivering girlfriend by the arm.
"Euuugh," Monica shuddered, fighting off a wave of heebie jeebies. "I forgot how slimy they are..." She sucked nervously on her straw, the dark room filling with loud gulps. Each time Tony stopped to take a closer look she cringed, burying her nails deeper into his back.
"Don't be such a baby." Anthony said with a wince.
"I'm not," she retorted, hesitantly detaching her claws from his backside. Clutching her cup with both hands, she sidled up to the glass and peered inside. "See?" The python flicked its tongue at her, a gesture she countered with an overzealous raspberry.
Anthony rolled his eyes and planted a kiss on her forehead. "I'm so proud." He moved on to the next window, leaving Monica free to tend to her itchy body in the safety of the dim lighting.
"Oooh," she sighed, scratching anywhere she could reach. It was beginning to worry her. There was no way it was dry skin; she moisturized far too often for that. A slender hand raked across her torso, digging into the pooch of belly surreptitiously distending over her waistline. A rash? There was no redness or discoloration... Oh, but it did feel good. Like, really good. "Oh...Oo..." Monica began to slouch, her body relaxing to the feel of her hands running along her skin. She took another pull from her banana smoothie, only this time her lips detached from the straw with a loud wet pop! She caught her reflection in the glass, and did a quick double take.
She frowned and squinted, hunching her body forward until she could see her reflection more clearly. The face that stared back at her was her own. Only... was there something off about it?
She couldn't put her finger on what she was seeing that was bothering her. She was no stranger to her own reflection, and the features in the glass were all familiar to her. But something about it felt... wrong. She pouted, her lips puffing out in confusion. Wait... my lips... Was it just her imagination, or did they seem thicker than usual? Maybe a little fuller? Speaking of fuller... had she gained some weight? Her cheeks felt a little rounder and softer to her than she remembered them being. She made a few exaggerated lip movements, and sighed. Without her compact, it was hard to tell for sure.
"Hey, you all right?" Anthony sidled up beside her with his back to the wall. "What's the matter?" he grinned. "See a zit?"
"Yeah," Monica scratched at her nose, looking back at the glass. "I mean, no! Shut up!" She slurped angrily at her cup, sucking up the last dregs of her smoothie. "Oh..." She took off the lid and looked inside, her mouth pooched into a vacant pout. She turned the cup upside down and shook it, as if expecting more to come out. "...No more banana."
"You sound disappointed. You don't even like bananas, not that I can blame you after what happened earlier."
"I know," Monica said indignantly. Her face grew hot just thinking about it. "I just meant I'm...hungry, that's all." She crossed her arms, a task made difficult by her generous endowments. More so than usual, in fact.
"Welp, I guess it's lunch time then," Anthony shrugged. He held open the exit for her, then fell in step beside her as they wound their way back to the entrance where the restaurants and shops were tucked away. "Some of those snakes were pretty awesome. Did you see the komodo?"
"Huh?" Monica scraped at her scalp, eyelids aflutter. She enjoyed the sensation more than she should have. "What's a komodo?"
"A big ass lizard," Anthony grinned, waving a handful of reptile informational brochures in her face. "That thing was a beast!"
The child in Anthony was showing again, and he proceeded to gush about how their mouths were full of something and something deadly something something... Monica lost focus, tuning him out much more quickly than usual. "Uh-huh." She was becoming more and more preoccupied with the way he was walking. Tall. Straight. Efficient. It looked so...unnatural. "Oo..." she grunted, emulating his perfect posture.
It seemed a simple feat at first, but a nagging ache began to plague her lower back something awful. Her thick, rounded shoulders felt too heavy to carry; it was far more comfortable to lean forward and let her arms hang before her. Gradually, her snooty, straight-backed strides were reduced to slouched steps. She set her gait a little wider than usual, unconsciously compensating for the extra booty bulging out of her sweats. It was such a relief on her spine that Monica hardly noticed the extra flab thickening around her arms and thighs, her only acknowledgment an absentminded scratching at the fattening limbs...
"...and they're only found on a few islands. Crazy, right? The brochure said..." Tony was still talking when the food stands came into view, so Monica helped him change the subject.
"Where we gonna eat?" she interrupted loudly. She found the smell of food exciting and infinitely more engaging than listening to her boyfriend blather on about lame animal facts. "I'm, like, sooo starving. I haven't had real food since breakfast."
Anthony pressed his lips in a hard line, annoyed at being so rudely cut off. "Oh, I see. Who's interrupting who now, hm?"
Monica sniffed at the air, only half-listening. "The difference is that I'm cu-oo-ute enough to get away with it." She smirked dully, giving her ass another hearty scratch. "Where should we eat? It all smells so yummy..."
"Take your pick, it's all the same. Overpriced and unhealthy." He followed Monica, who followed her nose. They ended up at a shack selling burgers and ice cream. All too familiar with his girlfriend's picky eating habits, Tony gave the cashier his order while she agonized over the menu.
"Oo...Uhm..." Any other day, Monica's hesitation would stem from counting calories and lecturing the cashier about the minute details of her meal. Today, the reality was that Monica was having difficulty reading the sign. It loomed over her, a board full of foreign scribblings. "This font look funny." Perhaps she had been on her phone a little too much lately... She squinted for a long time, her finger resting against her fat bottom lip thoughtfully while she familiarized herself with the shapes of the letters and the words they formed. Pictures would have been nice.
Tony kissed the back of her head. He knew the drill. "I'm gonna grab a table for us."
A line formed behind Monica by the time she was able to sound out 'fro-sen ba-na-na' and navigate her method of payment. A tray in each hand, she waddled over to where Tony was waving at her and pulled up a chair. Hunched eagerly over her tasty treat, Monica held the stick in a clumsy fist and bit into it. "Oo!" she squeaked in surprise. "It cold!" She explored the chocolate coating with her tongue before gnawing at it experimentally, trying to extract a piece with her elongated canines.
Tony set his burger down, a little unnerved at how eagerly Monica lapped at her frozen treat. She fawned over it with single-minded determination, tracing her lips with its chocolatey tip. "Should I leave you two alone?"
It took her a minute to catch on; gradually it dawned on her that this behavior wasn't exactly lady-like. "Mm, oo. No," she uttered between bites. Her cheeks grew warm; she resolved to chew her banana rather than suck on it. Obviously. "Oo...I-I mean, it just taste really good. Can't a girl eat?"
Feeling more than a little self-conscious, she did her best to imitate Anthony. She wiped a tendril of drool from her lips and sat up as straight as she could, pulling her neck away from her hunched shoulders. Several small pops issued from somewhere below her breasts as she shifted, where the zipper of her tracksuit was being pulled apart. Her free hand roamed of its own accord, scratching lazily at the prominent belly pinned between her and the table. Tony continued to watch her as she nibbled the tip of the banana, and she flushed further still. "Take a picture, it last longer," she snapped.
Tony narrowed his eyes, then shrugged. "I thought you were fed up with bananas, that's all. It's not even a real meal."
"Yeah, well...it hot out, " she answered defensively. "I thought a cold treat sounded yummy." Monica tried glowering at him, but her eyes kept wandering back to the fruit in her hand. She caved, plunging the banana in her mouth. "Whub we goin' nebt?" she asked, hoping to distract him.
"Hm." Anthony spread the map out on the table. "Well, I guess the closest thing we haven't seen would be the safari area. The aviary is probably cooler at this time of day though. What do you think?"
"Oo." Monica was quickly becoming wrapped up in her banana again, staring down through her nose at the stick while she sucked. Her head stooped low, following Anthony's finger as he traced their possible route across the page. "Oo, uhm, aviary means...birbs?" Monica flapped her hands helpfully, studying Anthony with a curious expression.
"Not just any birds; tropical birds! They've got an awesome rain forest set up with misters a-"
"Oo OO!" Monica smacked the table abruptly, her ponytail wagging. "No birbs! Definitely safari."
"It's gonna be hot."
"Don't want birb shit on my clothes. Or in my hair. Oo." Monica winced, unable to ignore the growing ache in her spine any longer. She grunted, the weight of her breasts pulling her down into a hunch so pronounced that the stitches of her tracksuit ripped right down the middle. Her shoulders filled the gap between her chin and her torso, forcing her ears to stick out on either side of her face. Monica readjusted her weight amid this much more comfortable posture, scratching at her backside. "Plus, birbs loud and stu-oo-pid."
"All right, but I don't want to hear one peep about how you're sweaty." Tony grabbed his tray and stood up, giving her a stern look. "Or bored. Or tired. Or thirsty. Deal?"
"Oo," Monica grunted, banana in hand as she slid her wobbling ass out of her seat, though she had some trouble wedging her hips out from between the arms. She watched Anthony throw away their trash, scratching her head. He was tall, even for a guy, but he seemed taller than usual. She puzzled over it for several moments before realizing she was being left behind. "H-hey! Wait for Monica!" she called, lumbering after him in an awkward waddle. She took another chunk out of her frozen banana while she walked, working it around her clumsy tongue. "How far to... to place?" She grunted, trying to remember the word. "S....sah...safari place?"
"Uh," Tony consulted the map, "We'll have to go back through the ape enclosure and hang a left." He tucked the map away, grinning. "Hey, maybe we'll see your friend again."
Monica crossed her arms, glaring up at him. "That not funny."
"It's a little funny. You did kinda flip out over nothing."
"Oo!" she said indignantly, "It strong! Stole my phone! Gross monkey touching me not nothing!"
"Ape," Tony corrected for the umpteenth time. The only response Monica could think of was to pound him in the shoulder. Hard. Tony gave a yelp as a thick, meaty arm collided into him with the force of a freight train. "Aye! Watch it girl, that smarts!" At his exclamation, several other zoo guests turned towards the couple. Most didn't give them more than a passing glance, though a few continued to stare in interest. Not that Monica noticed.
"Goo-oo-ood," she replied with a smug smile. Satisfied, she intertwined her long fingers in his so she could focus on devouring the rest of her frozen banana while they walked. It was still too cold to eat properly, warranting some rather ungainly chewing on Monica's part. "Ssss, ow!"
"Heh. Brain freeze?"
"Mm!" She nodded, rubbing her forehead blearily to ease the painful sensation, with little success. Her head felt like it was on fire, a thousand small pins and needles digging into her brain. As she continued to paw at her forehead, however, the feeling began to recede. "Ow...ow...oo..." Gradually, bit by bit, the fire behind her forehead felt number, the needles in her brain duller. “Ooo... oo oo...” Yes, that was better. Now that her head wasn't hurting as bad, she could go back to eating her yummy banana. “Oo oo.” She munched away, the dull numbness settling comfortably over her. A creature of superficial thought to begin with, she not only failed to notice her simplifying thought patterns, but actually took to them quite naturally.
"Oo. That banana goo-oo-ood!" Her words came slower now, but no less shrill. She tugged insistently at the tail of Anthony's shirt. "More?"
"I told you to get some real food."
"More. Oo!"
"Monicaaaa," Anthony didn't even try to hide his exasperation. "If you want another one, you can walk all the way back yourself. You should have had an actual meal like I told you."
Her wild blonde ponytail wagged back and forth. "Oo! It too faaarr!" she whined. "Me not walking all that way for dumb yummy banana. Oo-oo. Even if it really yummy."
"Great. We're in agreement then." Tony pressed on, happy to let the matter drop.
"Oo." Monica scratched her head and wrapped her fat lips around a forefinger, sucking in confusion. That conversation had not gone the way she had planned. Anthony always did what she said. If he really loved her, he'd go get more food for her. More yummy fruit. "Yellow sweet yum," Monica babbled, more to herself than anyone else. "The way it mush when me chew... Oo. Oo-oo!" She scratched herself more vigorously, growing excited just thinking about it.
Anthony was just thankful it kept his girlfriend preoccupied long enough for them to pass the ape enclosure without another incident, though Monica did stop to sniff the air curiously. It was a familiar scent. Something flowery. She couldn't put her finger on it. Anthony pulled her along, so she followed, leaving the thought to fade into a blurry haze.
Unfortunately, the safari area came with complications of its own. Just as he'd predicted, it was hotter than hell and crowded to boot. In the wake of the heat and with no food to distract her, Monica grew irate faster than ever. She pouted, pleaded, and pounded on him, to the point where Anthony had to pull her aside once they reached the hyena den. The crowd was thinner here due to the smell, which Monica strangely did not seem to mind.
"You're the one who wanted to come here in the middle of the afternoon," Anthony chastised, holding Monica by a flabby arm. "What was our deal?"
Monica grunted, not meeting his eyes.
"Answer me."
"Oo."
"What?"
Monica wrenched her arm away, sulking. "No complain."
"That's right. And what've you been doing for the past hour?"
"Oo."
"Monica!"
"Complain!" Monica threw up her hands, revealing damp pit stains under her arms. "It hot! Me bored and thirsty and oo oo OO BORED!" She hunched over the railing overlooking the hyenas, now just barely tall enough to see over the wall. "Oo!" Her fat belly stuck out far enough that it pressed against the hot stone, forcing her to step back.
"God, you are such a pain sometimes," Tony breathed. "What am I saying, you're a pain all the time! You scream and yell more than anyone I've ever met. You're worse than the goddamn monkeys! What will it take to make you happy for once?"
"Oo," Monica scratched her ass while she mulled it over. Several images flashed through her mind: lipstick, bananas, money, phone, bananas, home, sex, shopping, bananas... She wanted to tell him all of these things, but it was too hard. Moving her ungainly tongue, all those weird little sounds. Too much detail. Too much effort. Why didn't Anthony just do what she said, like always? Monica watched the hyenas below lap at their water trough, smacking her fat lips. "Drink," she answered dimly. "Drink make me happy. Oo."
"A drink. A drink will make you happy." Anthony chewed his lip and nodded to himself, then shook his head. "You know what?" He was hot, he was tired, and he was done. "Cool. Get it yourself. Call me when you grow up." He paused. "Oh wait, you can't. Not without your precious phone." He continued down the path without so much as a backward glance, grumbling to himself.
Monica watched him go, then slapped the ground angrily with a flat palm. She wanted to yell at him, but she couldn't think of anything to say. She decided to yell after him anyway. "Oo! Dumb...man! Go! Me no scream like monkey! Me scream like...oo...Oo!" Monica kicked up a cloud of dust, unable to come up with another comparison. "Oo!" She paced about, fuming.
A cackle from down below caught her attention, where three hyenas had stopped to watch her. "What yoo-oo-ou looking at?" she snapped, waving a hand at them as well. The trio simply cocked their heads and giggled, as if sharing a joke at her expense. "Oo! Beat it!"
"Hehehehehhhh!" The hyenas were still looking up at her, enjoying the show.
"Oo!" It was so hard to think with all that annoying laughter. "Shut UP!" Monica reached down for a rock and chucked it where the animals were gathered, striking one of them right on the muzzle. Crk! A stitch popped somewhere around her shoulder blades. "Oo! Stupid mutts!" She threw another stone, too far to the left this time. Ccrrrk! Monica's breasts lurched forward a few inches, threatening to spill over. "Oo..." she groaned. More taunting cackles floated up to her.
"STOP!" Red-faced and frustrated, Monica snapped. Rocks and chunks of earth rained down into the pit, scattering pretty much everywhere except her intended targets. With each rock, her throws felt wilder. Forearms that were once toned and athletic grew lanky and uncoordinated as Monica raged. The hyenas glanced at the rocks and back to her, laughing even louder than before. Monica couldn't help herself, couldn't think straight. Her primitive instincts took over, pushing her into a full-blown temper tantrum.
"Oo! Oo! OO!" Monica's fat tits bounced up and down, nearly popping free of her torn tube top. Her sweats, too, began to sag beneath the weight of her thick ass, falling down around her wobbling cheeks until her thong was visible. She didn't care. Her clothes were too small anyway–she wasn't even sure why she was wearing them. "Oo!" Her shrill voice echoed throughout the pit, drawing stares from several passerby. Monica stalked off, away from the unwanted eyes, screeching expletives and waving her long arms angrily.
"Oo! Dumb dogs. Dumb man! Call me monkey? Oo!" Monica pushed her way through the crowd, scratching herself furiously. "What he know? Me more woman than he know what do-oo-oo with! Screaming monkey! Oo! How dare??" She waddled down the path, fuming aloud in grunts and clipped speech until her rage ran its course.
Once gone, only two things remained: regret for the way she yelled at her boyfriend, and a gnawing, single-minded need for comfort food. A banana, perhaps. "Oo. Oo." Monica liked that idea; maybe she would even get two. For Anthony, of course. In case he came back. Inspired, she loped along in the direction she vaguely remembered coming through, hoping it would lead her back to the entrance.
Before long that familiar flowery scent crossed her nostrils once more, prompting her to stop. Monica crouched on a knuckle, sniffing curiously at the air. She breathed deep, amazed at the sudden smorgasbord of smells she was able to detect. Popcorn. Sweat. Grass. Garbage. Animals. Awash with this new information, Monica failed to noticed the changes subtly warping her once beautiful features. With every excited sniff, her nostrils grew larger and wider. Small hairs peeked out across her face, filling in her meticulously plucked eyebrows until they became one. The slope of her brow itself jutted outward, making her eyes appear beady and dull. After a muffled pop, her jaw and cheeks pressed into a flabby pout and drooped, marking the end of her delicate face.
The startled gasps of several passerby brought Monica out of her reverie. "Oo?" She hunched over, slightly bewildered. A couple parents scooped up their kids and ran off, while more than a few people had stopped to gawk at her; some even had their cameras at the ready. Monica's confusion faded once she realized they just wanted photos of the super model. "Oo." Of course they did. And they were lucky to get them, too. Monica yawned, pretending not to notice while shutters clicked away. There, a few candids should satisfy those peasants. "Oo oo oo," Monica chuckled to herself before moving on, her mere presence enough to part the crowd. Always leave them wanting more.
All Monica really wanted to do was follow the food. She turned, staring toward the source of that warm buttery salty yummy smell. "Ooo," she agonized, smacking at the pavement with her flat palms. That floral scent nagged at her, holding her in place. It smelled good, but not in a yummy food way. There was something mixed in with it. Somethin- Monica narrowed her eyes. "Monkey," she whispered venomously, glaring in the direction of the ape habitat. She found herself loping off toward them, driven by something strong and primal. Images flashed through her simple mind, angry and red. Monkey. Phone! Thief!! Flowers. What smell? Purple smell??
It was nearly dusk by the time a sweaty, dust-covered Monica found her way back to the ape enclosure. The living embodiment of stubbornness and in spite of her screaming lower back, Monica refused to walk with her knuckles, making the journey that much slower on her awkward, underdeveloped legs. The dying light made the silhouette of her long arms stick out all the more as they swayed awkwardly around her knees. The few people remaining in the zoo were winding down for the day, visiting their favorite animals one last time before going home. As they passed, several small children pointed at her and cried out in delight. Monica was in no mood to deal with whatever they were laughing at, so she simply blew them a fat raspberry and trundled past.
"Oo?" Now that she was getting close, it was easier to piece the scent together. It was clean, very refreshing in the wake of her own natural body odor. "Oo." Lilac perfume. "Oo!" Her lilac perfume. Curiosity urged her on, so she followed the sweet smell right up to the bars. Through them, she spotted her yellow purse in the lap of a lip-stick'd ape. It was digging through the various pockets, searching for something. "Oo! Hey!" Monica screeched, banging on the bars with her palm. "That mine! My stuff! Oo!"
The beast looked up at her and frowned. It shooed Monica away with a wave of its hand, uninterested. When Monica continued to make a racket, it chucked a tampon at her snout to shut her up.
"OO! Why yoo-oo-ou!" Monica slapped the bars one last time, huffing loudly. "Oo! Monkey! Dumb! Stuff MINE! Purse MINE! Oo-oo ah!" She ripped the tampon out of its packaging and threw it aimlessly. Looking at the peeled wrapper, a wicked little light bulb flickered in her primitive mind. Glowering, Monica shuffled away, taking a short detour through the nearby door marked FNPLUYFFS OMIY, the same storage room where she had filled out her incident report. "Ah! Oo!" Perfect, they were still there. With a toothy grin, Monica snatched a banana bunch from one of the food crates and slipped back out the door, closing it quietly behind her.
"Yoo-hoo-oo." Monica crooked a hairy finger at the pink-lipped ape. She settled into the grass with her hands behind her back, simply waiting while her rival approached. The other ape sat too, watching curiously through the bars.
"Banana?" Monica pulled her wide face into a vile grin, plucking a singular fruit from the bunch and peeling it. She lifted it high above her head for a moment, then let it drop, straight into her gullet. "Mmm... Oo-oo. Yum." Monica made a show of rubbing her belly, though the shivers of pleasure rippling along her spine were very much genuine. Another banana was separated from the bunch, though this time she held it out to share.
"Yum," the ape mimicked, threading her slender hand out toward Monica.
"Oo-oops." Monica rescinded her gift, viciously biting into it with an apologetic shrug. "This mine, too-oo-oo." She polished it off it two more chomps, smacking loudly. "Another?" She offered the third banana with an open palm and grunted to herself, expecting a rise out of the ape this time. Instead, it stood up and walked off, reappearing moments later with a yellow prize of its own: Monica's purse. It rifled through the bag, retrieving tubes of eyeliner, lipstick, perfume, and several palettes of foundation.
"Oo! That mine!" Monica got to her feet, wagging her arms beneath her armpits. "Oo-oo! Give back...dumb monkey!" The ape paid her no mind, far too busy gazing into a compact while it inspected its newly applied eye shadow. "Oo! Two-oo play that game!" Monica grabbed another banana and stuffed it down her throat, maintaining eye contact the entire time. "How yoo-oo-ou like??" She had another peeled before she even finished her sentence, and ate that one too. She paused just long enough to scratch her crotch, unaware of the long hairs sprouting out of the waistband of her tattered sweats.
Monica was so caught up in her cruel game that before long she forgot why she was eating bananas in the first place. She ate simply because they were there, unwittingly degenerating herself just for another taste of the sweet fruit. The curvature of her spine became permanently warped and shortened, robbing Monica of her ability to stand upright. She crouched, putting weight on her knuckles to ease the pressure on her uncoordinated legs. Monica's awareness dwindled with every bite, taking with it the acuity and intelligence of her higher brain function.
As the pile of banana peels around Monica grew, so did the wiry blonde hair along her forearms, legs, and back. Her neck disappeared under another flabby chin, forcing her head to sit directly between hunched and hairy shoulders. Callouses formed on the palms and knuckles of her hands, while the toes of her feet shifted entirely, forming long, prehensile digits. Monica rolled back onto her butt, hunching over her gut so she could peel with her feet and eat with her hands. Her features rounded out, bloating until her sweats and tube top burst apart, leaving Monica utterly naked. Two fat tits fell to her belly and rested there, larger than ever. She took no notice.
Monica was now fully devolved, the only traces of her former self evident in her various body piercings, curiously blonde body hair, and a coarsely bunched pony-tail. "Oo," she grunted thickly, "Yum." Her voice came out low and lazy, slurred behind an unrefined and overlarge tongue. Oo...oo... Who...monkey...now..."
The other ape sighed and looked up from the compact as if it were a terrible inconvenience. "Monica," she answered. "Monica monkey now."
"Oo?" Monica raked a hand along the top of her head, trying to scratch the tickling sensation in her brain. It took her a few moments to identify it as a question. "How...oo....talk...oo..." She chewed on another bite of delicious banana, tossing the peel behind her. Then, between mouthfuls, "Mon-i-ca not...mon-key... Oo!"
"Uh-huh." The hairless ape tossed the compact at Monica, booping her right in the face again. "Look."
Monica studied the compact before tapping it roughly against the ground. The clasp popped open, revealing her reflection. ...No, not her reflection. That brief flash of recognition faded behind her dull eyes, buried further by a heaping helping of denial. How could it be? It was just a picture of a monkey. A fat, hairy beast. Monica said as much, pointing at the little black case. "Oo-oo ah oo." Wait. That didn't sound r-
"Monica?!" A familiar voice came running up from behind. "What happened to you? How on earth did you get in there?" Anthony rushed right up to the bars, reaching through them to take the ape's perfectly manicured hand. "Are you all right? Where are your clothes?"
"Oo!" Monica said indignantly, waddling up to the couple. What was he doing, touching that gross hairless beast. "Oo-oo?" Trying to make her jealous? "Oo!"
"Holy shit!" Tony backpedaled at the sudden sight of Monica, unrecognizable except as a fat blonde orangutan. "How did that thing get out?"
"Oo!" Thing?!
"Help," the other ape pleaded quietly, patting the bars separating her from Anthony. "Trapped for so long... Please." She motioned to the padlocked door, miming a key.
"Uh," Anthony had his back to the bars, watching Monica cautiously. "Y-yeah. Right. Let me go find someone with keys...and clothes. Make sure you stay away from the animals this time, okay?" He turned to go, but not before sneaking one more glance at Monica. More specifically, the little golden hoop pierced into her nostril.
"Hurry. Please."
Anthony shook his head. "Right. Be right back, babe."
"Oo-oo!" Monica looked from Anthony to the ape, scratching her head. Why did he keep talking to that ape in the cage? Her mouth pulled into a mindless 'o' while she summoned what meager brainpower she had left. She supposed, if she were feeling generous, that the ape did not seem as gross as she remembered. Less hairy, that was for sure. In fact, there was almost no hair on her, except for her head and crotch. Her figure was slender and shapely, for a beast, and she was tall, far taller than Monica... She blinked stupidly while the pieces clicked into place.
It was her face. Her beautiful human face watching smugly behind the bars. Her perfect human body, standing their with her perfect hands on her perfect hips. Her doppelganger smiled, baring her teeth. "OO?!" Monica pointed at herself, then at the woman watching her behind the bars. "Ah-ah oo!" My body! Monica jumped up and down, positively outraged at the thought of some filthy animal wearing her visage. "Oo-oo!" Change back, give back!
"Sorry," the other Monica shrugged. "One way trip."
"OO!" The blonde orangutan screeched wildly, loping along the length of the enclosure in an effort to find a way in. "Haa-haa-HOW?" Monica screamed again, unable to control the volume in her voice. The longer she stared at "herself," the angrier she got. "Oo OO!"
"My banana. Your body." The fake Monica shook her head, putting a finger to her luscious lips. "Our little secret."
The orangutan recalled a dim memory of being force fed a slimy, half-eaten banana. Back when she was still a woman. Monica. Monica-? There was a scuffle of sneakers on pavement before nearby voices chased away whatever simple connections the orangutan had been trying to make.
"I'm telling you, one got out somehow," Anthony explained breathlessly. He had two other men in tow behind him, each equipped with gloves and animal control poles. "And my girlfriend, she's...well..."
"You again?" The first handler tapped the butt of his pole on the ground impatiently, staring at the naked woman in the cage. He sighed and unclipped the ring of keys hanging from his belt. "All right, fun's over. This is the second time I've caught you harassing my animals today." He fiddled with the lock and opened the door wide. "Come on out. Hurry up, before you wake the orangutans."
"Sorry," the woman–Monica–muttered, keeping her head low. She sidled along the edge of the enclosure in slow, awkward steps, wobbling precariously now and again. "Won't be doing again."
"No," the keeper said, "You won't." He held the door open, offering Monica a hand to steady her. "As of right now, you're banned from this facility. Both of you."
Anthony looked absolutely crushed. "B-"
"I don't want to hear it," the zookeeper cut him off with a sweeping gesture. "You're done. If you can't respect these creatures then you have no business being here. Now stay back and be quiet." He turned to his assistant and jerked a thumb toward the blonde orangutan. "Let's get her home, safe and sound."
"Right." They turned, poles at the ready, and cautiously advanced forward.
"Ooo," the orangutan grunted, eyeing the men warily. Why looking at me? They came at her from either side, corralling her against the outer fence of the habitat. "Oo OO!" No monkey, NOT MONKEY! She slapped at the boot of the assistant, forcing him back a step. "She's a feisty one."
"No kidding. And check out that coat, ever see hair that color?"
"Just a trick of the...light!" The zookeeper lunged, collaring the orangutan with his pole once her head was turned.
"OO OO OO!" The blonde orangutan screeched at the top of her lungs, yanking wildly at the loop tightening around her throat. When it wouldn't give, she wrapped her elongated fingers around the pole and yanked, sending the zookeeper flying.
"Arrrg!" he spat through a mouthful of grass. "Don't let her get loose!" His assistant was already on it. Another pole swung down hard, looping the orangutan by the wrist and pinning her arm to the ground.
"OO! Ah-ahn-tony oo OO!!" STOP! Anthony what they do? Make them STOP! The orangutan stared at him with glistening eyes, extending her free arm toward him. "Oo?" But Anthony only stared. The zookeeper did not.
"Gotcha!" The orangutan's other arm was pinned down in a matter of seconds. Both men tightened their grip and frogmarched the thrashing beast toward the cage door. "Easy, easy. We don't want to rough her up too much."
"Frankly, I'm more worried about us," the assistant panted, wiping his forehead against his sleeve. With no small amount of effort, they managed to wrangle the animal into the enclosure and release her. Two massive fists slammed into the bars as soon as the door was locked.
"AH-AH OOOOOO!" The beast howled, hanging from the bars and shaking them vigorously to little effect. She kept glancing from Anthony to Monica, baring large yellow canines.
"Are they always this excitable?" Anthony shouted over the screams, having shuffled closer and closer to the action in order to get a better view.
The zookeeper gave him a hard look. "Only when something or someone agitates them. Speaking of which," he motioned for Monica and him to follow, "it's time for you two to go home, too."
Anthony was about to argue, but thought better of it. After everything that had happened today, Monica was safe and that was all that mattered. He took one last look at the incredible animal in front of him, not knowing when he might see another again. From her tufted ponytail to her...his eyes wandered to the orangutan's nasal piercing, then to the studs embedded in her earlobes. Anthony furrowed his brow as the zookeeper took him by the arm, craning his neck for a second glance. Wait...
He and Monica were escorted away from the ape enclosure, with the zookeeper and his assistant on either side of them to avoid any more funny business. Monica glanced back at that wretched prison and her doppelganger trapped within. Even from considerable a distance she could still hear the shrill, desperate screeching. She took Anthony's hand and smiled to herself. "Stupid Monikey."

Anthony stared at his phone, pretending to read something. Another spoonful of cereal found its way to his mouth, though he wasn't sure what kind. It was hard to focus on these things with an imposter in the room. As soon as the coast was clear, he snuck another glance. Monica was a monster. After living with and indulging her insanity for three years, Anthony was certain of little else. A loud, self-serving, petty, shallow monster.
The woman sitting across from him was not. The woman who sweetly offered to share her sugared grapefruit with him. The woman who was not yacking away on her brand new cell phone. The woman who, despite her massive collection of designer clothes, was currently wearing a wrinkled t-shirt and sweatpants. She looked exactly like Monica, but she wasn't.
Anthony hadn't slept that night, after the incident at the zoo. He had stared at the ceiling until dawn, replaying the whole day through his mind. It was crazy. A crazy, stupid, nonsense thought that just wouldn't get out of his head. The moment the sun had peeked over the horizon, he rolled over, inspecting every inch of his girlfriend visible above the blanket. He was relieved to find every beauty mark where it should be, not a hair out of place. He should have stopped there.
"Good morning," she purred with a stretch.
"Morning," he had answered, following up with a fateful peck on her perfectly tanned nose.
"Did you sleep okay?"
But Anthony didn't answer. Or maybe he had, he couldn't remember. It was at that moment that he realized the woman sharing his bed had not one piercing on her body. Not only the jewelry, but the piercings themselves were missing. Gone. Not even a scar. Why then, was her vanity overflowing with earrings and nasal studs? The short answer was that he had no idea. The long answer was... Well, Anthony had always subscribed to the notion of 'don't ask questions you don't want the answer to.' So, he had played along.
The first few days had been easy. New Monica was playful, curious, and affectionate; she loved him and she in turn was easy to love. The days turned to weeks and the weeks into months and Monica woke up each and every morning with a smile on her lips.
Anthony did not. Anthony woke up ragged each and every morning, tortured by sleepless, fretful dreams. Dreams filled with apes and cages and piercings. And God, the screaming. Those orangutan's shrill cries still echoed in his head even now, and for the 112th day in a row he stared across the table and asked himself the same question he didn't want the answer to: Did my girlfriend turn into an ape? "You're staring at me again," Monica murmured, not looking up from her crossword puzzle.
Anthony shook himself back to reality. "Just admiring the view," he replied with a tentative smile. The real Monica would have yelled at him for not ogling her.
"Uh-huh." Monica folded her crossword under her arms as she leaned into the table. "What are you up to today?"
He shrugged. "No plans. Just another lazy Sunday."
"Oh." Monica played with the edges of the paper, folding them back and forth. "It doesn't have to be totally lazy," she said finally, looking up at him through her eyelashes.
Anthony sat up a bit. "No," he said slowly, "I suppose it doesn't." Never before had Anthony appreciated just how loud silence could be.
"Well," Monica stood up with a wistful sigh, "I think I'll lie down for a little bit." Her round little butt sauntered down the hall in its own sweet time, exaggerating the sway of her hips with every step. She gave him one last subtle dose of fuck me eyes before disappearing into the bedroom.
Anthony remained rigid. Steam gushed out of his ears while his upper brain warred against his lower brain. After several moments and for the 112th day in a row, a victor emerged triumphant. Anthony practically dove into the bed where Monica lay in wait, straddling him as soon as he was naked. He happily pushed away all thoughts of orangutans and sleepless nights; he was only human, after all.
"Gosh, what a big, yummy banana!"
He could not, however, say the same of his girlfriend. Not anymore, anyway.
