Chapter 23 John? Joey?
🕑 Added 2025-08-31 14:15:42 +0000 UTC"There must be a component failure in the machine."
"It stinks in here. Never mind, let's not talk about that for now. Wasn't the machine just repaired last time? I thought it would last for half a year. Damn it, why are there so many idiots in the maintenance department!" Dr. Watts pinched his nose and cursed angrily.
All the audience members were cheered up after hearing the two doctors' complaints.
They had a feeling that the turning point of the game was coming.
"But it doesn't matter. We have already preserved the memories of the teenagers. Maybe we can complete the task as well."
Just when everyone was confused about this sentence, the following conversation between the two doctors and the original old John answered everyone's doubts.
As employees of the company, their mission was to help old John fulfill his wish of going to the moon. As for why he wanted to go to the moon, sorry, that was not what they needed to pay most attention to.
If the situation allows, it would be fine to take a look, but now that the situation has gone wrong, we can only use the fastest method to solve it.
That is, to instill in John, who was still a teenager, the desire to become an astronaut, and then guide him step by step on the path of an astronaut to the moon.
The final result is to reach the moon; the process in between is not important.
Sirin: “?”
When these remarks were made, not only Sirin was confused, but also tens of thousands of viewers who were watching the plot were confused. The screen was filled with question marks, and for a moment it even covered the entire picture.
"No, what's going on? I've come this far, and now you're telling me I'm quitting?"
What does that rabbit mean? What is Old John's wish? We haven't even explained it yet. Why did this suddenly happen? !
[That’s right, I took off my pants, and you show me this? ]
[It’s hard to hold back. This designer can write a script. ]
[Looking forward to the one-shot completion and the avalanche of reviews. ]
[The game designer’s name is Minamiya, right? Okay, okay, I’ll remember that.]
......
But no matter how much people scold, the plot still has to go on.
As everyone frowned, Sirin manipulated the two doctors to begin influencing John's memory.
but......
After instilling the wish, both of them fell silent as they looked at Old John standing on the cliff without any change.
"Maybe we should give him a little more stimulation."
Then, they began to modify old John's memory from childhood.
First, the cinema he frequented was changed to one that showed astronauts, and even the content of the movie was changed.
It's useless.
Then, they held a job fair for anti-entropy astronauts at John's school.
Still no use.
Then, they tried one after another, selling the lottery ticket to the moon to Old John who was struggling to decide whether to build a house or treat River, going to the ward where River was diagnosed and recommending the medical benefits for the astronauts' families, and promoting a honeymoon on the moon at the wedding...
It’s useless, useless, and still useless.
They went to every point in time and tried all methods, but old John's life remained the same and never changed.
[Does this old man really want to go to the moon? ! ! ]
Obviously, the audience was also confused by this scene.
Obviously, they were so determined to go to the moon in the beginning, but why is John still unwilling to be an astronaut even though he is just about to be tied up and thrown into a rocket? ! ! !
Is it really that he wants to let go of himself in his old age and go on an exciting trip before he dies?
This old guy is really trendy.
"Don't worry, I think there will be a big twist later."
Sirin said as she quickly pushed the plot forward.
Of course, she didn't need to say this, everyone understood this, and the barrage was just complaints. The plot has progressed to this point, and anyone can see that the next story is not simple.
Out of desperation, the two doctors had to come out to rest for a while and continue the next day.
But during this not-so-long break, a clue appeared.
Dr. Watts accidentally discovered that John had taken a large amount of beta-blockers when he was a child. This drug for treating cardiovascular disease has great side effects, affecting memory being one of them.
What's more, it is taken in such large doses.
"I have now adjusted the frequency. All we need to do next is find a trigger that has a strong presence in old John's memory. Through this, we can enter his childhood memories."
Coincidentally, the trigger was the little squirrel that they accidentally pretended to be dead while driving yesterday.
Soon, with the familiar white light flashing, Sirin finally entered John's childhood memory dream.
But at this moment, the entire screen suddenly vibrated and turned a terrifying red, and the background was filled with shrill alarms.
"What, what happened?!"
Sirin was startled and quickly looked at the plot on the screen.
Turning our attention outside, the doctor and Lily were standing in front of Old John's bed.
"Doctor, something's wrong." Lily said in panic.
"His condition has deteriorated..."
The experienced female doctor inside also understood this, and they had to race against time at this moment.
The sudden change made Sirin nervous. She began to devote herself wholeheartedly, fearing to waste even a second.
In this childhood home of John's memory, the two saw little Johns one by one.
They were either running around or chatting with someone whose face could not be seen clearly. There was also a little John who was happily playing football on the road.
"Oh, his technique is great, it's like the ball is following him," Dr. Watts complimented.
But at this moment, Sirin found that she suddenly could not control the character, and the scene on the screen was forced to move upwards.
Anyone who has played the game knows that this is the trigger for the mandatory CG.
John's mother, who had just finished chatting at the door, started the car and prepared to reverse.
Little John, who was completely unaware of the situation, happened to pass by while kicking a ball.
bump!
There was a sharp brake sound.
Plop, plop.
Everything in the background suddenly turned dark, and the heartbeat of Little John echoed in the darkness.
"He is really lucky to survive the car accident." The male doctor sighed.
"No, he didn't survive." The female doctor suddenly replied.
What's the meaning?
The scene that followed made everyone’s brain feel like it was buzzing.
Another 'Little John' appeared. He quickly ran to the side of the knocked-down Little John and shouted in pain: "Joey, wake up, wake up!!"
"Mom, why did you knock Joey down!!!"
Faced with her son's accusation, the mother just shed tears silently with empty eyes. The moment she realized that she had hit her son, her spirit... collapsed.
It turns out that John was never an only child.
He has a twin brother named 'Joey'.
This tragedy, caused by his mother's carelessness, also caused him to lose his own brother.
The mentally ill mother force-fed John a large amount of beta-blockers, perhaps because she missed Joey or wanted him to forget the pain.
And the things like transforming into warriors that River mentioned in order to awaken John's memory turned out to be Joey's hobbies all along, and these hobbies were imposed on John by his mentally ill mother.
When Sirin thought that this reversal was shocking enough, the real truth about going to the moon had quietly been unveiled before her.
With a flash of light, the two doctors jumped back to a few months ago.
The scene changed and they arrived at a bustling amusement park.
