For people with less, that is on par with counting your fortune in front of them, then buying them lunch. You might feel you've done something good, but instead they are left feeling inadequate. May would be left feeling "indebted" to Hannelore, even if it was truly a gift, and would probably hate her for it too. And would likely despise herself for not being "enough" to earn it.

May, there's a difference between earning (Hannelore's dad earned his fortune by making advances in AI and robotics (<a href="http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1902" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">HE INVENTED THE ROBOT HAMSTER</a>)) and taking (Hannelore's mother is <a href="http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=917" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">less beneficent</a>). Yes, Winslow has a better lot in life than May, thanks to Hanners, but he is not shoving it in her face (at least not intentionally). That being said, I can also understand where May is coming from. At work during my lunch break, a couple of workmates were talking about home buying and mortgages and that, whereas me and my family can not afford to ever buy because we are stuck in the rental trap. It made me feel really inadequate, even though these people did not have much more "privilege" than I do.
